Call me weird - but a fresh crappie or bream fillet, anything more
than a dash of water to get most the blood/slimey stuff/loose scales
off - is a crime :p I would be afraid to try anything that'd make 'em
    any better

Gaspin, where in southern Illinois? I was born and raised in So. Illinois (Jerseyville, Edwardsville, and Woodriver) and have never heard of that.

Yuck. You can have 'em. Get a big bowl while you're filleting them with cold water in it to wash the blood off and you don't need anything else. What's the point of washing natural fish oil off a fillet? Pat 'em dry, dredge in your batter, and fry 'em up.

Have you tried putting your fillets in the dishwasher yet? I suspect if you did you would get 2 for one. Put them on the bottom rack and turn on the heat dry cycle, thus they are cleaned and cooked ready for consumption at the push of a button.

You could add some fruitwood like cherry, or apple. The wash/rinse cycle would soak it down, and the wood would slow burn during the dry cycle.

In all seriousness. The guy only asked us a question about this. Albiet, a strange subject, there may be merit to it. Kind of reminds me of the saying, "Don't knock it, until you try it". Using Dawn, it might actually remove some of the grease off of the more fatty fishes. Sides that, I believe it's his prerogative to prepare his fish however he sees fit. It could work, but I would sure want to make sure it was rinsed well.

I saw on the food channel one time where the chef had wrapped Salmon in heavy duty aluminum foil packets and cooked the Salmon in the dishwasher. Never tried it myself. I figure grease or the grill would work better

You can use Dawn all you want, but I'm putting some Electrasol on mine and setting it to "Pot and pans". I figure that way I can gut descale and cook all in one motion.
