I agree lag, we need to drill for our own oil, but we got too many tree huggers. I like to use my hammer drill on a couple of tree huggers I know. Put it on high impact and ram it home. Bet they would let go them trees then.

I totaly agree with both of you. If I need to meet you all with my hammer drill let me know when and where. I hope it is close though, gas is getting high!

Cane Pole is right. The reason we don't or can't drill more is that the tree huggers have basically stopped any exploration. They have also stopped any new refineries. I understand that we haven't built a new refinery in the last 20 or so years. Regulations passed to supposedly protect the environment make it prohibitive to even try. One of the things that I hold against the president is that when he had a republican congress he didn't ram through new regulations that would allow drilling in Alaska, off shore etc and allow a reasonable approach to new refineries. Any chance of that happening in the forseeable future is between slim and none and slim just left town.

I read some quotes recently from some extreme tree huggers and they were saying that this high gas price was a good thing. It will force people to stop driving so much and that in turn will stop one of the biggest contributors to polution. One also added that we should add a $2.00+ a gallon tax like France and use the money to enforce environmental regulations. IMHO these people are idiots.

As far as politions are concerned I recall something an old man told me when I was still young. He said that "the older I get the more cynical I get and no matter how hard I try I can't keep up". I'm pretty much there now. In the upcoming elections if someone says "We'll take care of that problem for you" look out. In the Army we called BOHICA. Bend over, here it comes again.

Get ready for $4.50 gas. Wished I had a diesel pickup now, as I have a good 12 volt fuel pump and live near a large truck stop.

Thank God I’m blessed to have numerous good lakes and a great river system close by to fish from.

    I'd rather be fishing!

One thing you all might want to stop and consider. The American dollar ain't what she used to be. All of you remember I am sure that you could get about 1.48 Canadian for 1.00 US. It has not been that long ago. Go check now. Gentlemen we are on a path that will eventually make us a third rate nation.

I trace it back to when we started basing our economy on service orientation instead of manufactured goods. Since we import our oil and our dollar is down naturally it will cost more. What should be an upside American goods being cheaper due to the de-evaluated doollar. Does us no good at all because we are not manufacturing anything. At least not enough to overcome our huge trade imbalance. We import far more than we export.

I wished it was as simple as Bush and Buddies getting rich. Unfortunately that is not the case as this coming November will prove. If it was true oil and gas prices would fall like a rock as soon as Bush left office right.

When I sat down with my financial wizard prior to retirement last Aug. He predicted all of this. I am so glad I listened to him instead of what I was going to do with my 401K.

I know one thing, I don't fish alone anymore. I won't go unless I have a buddy in the back of the boat and the passenger seat of the truck. They are good guys who either drive every other trip or pitch in for gas. It is more fun with a buddy anyway.

I fish once a week, more or less. I burn a tank of gas a week, about half on the fishing trip and half around town. A doubling of my gas bill hurts but when the boat is paid off soon, that $300 a month I'm paying on it will sure help get over the higher gas prices.

The best way to jump start the global economy is to get back to $40 barrel oil. Everybody has more money to spend, save, invest, and we are back in the good ole days. It is that simple. Raise taxes with a new Democrat president and Democrat legislature, I have less money to spend, the economy gets worse. What part of that don't the liberals understand?

Oh and I'll never go larger than my 60hp 4 stroke. I can't imagine why someone would get a 22' bass boat with a 300 hp, the gas bill must be outrageous! Oh, wait a minute..it is called disposable income, a rare commodity these days.

I didn't mean to start a debate on high gas prices . I think the high gas prices suck , but that wasn't the intent of my initial post . Just wondering if the high price of gas is affecting your driving habits , and the distance you travel to your fishing destination ?
Sure I'd like to travel 120-200 miles round trip to some of the better Crappie fishing lakes around here , but if I can catch a few fish closer to home and save money on gas I'll do it .
The only thing we can do to control prices is to conserve more gas . Even if it doesn't have any effect in the short term , at least I feel better about not spending more on gas .
If OPEC is going to keep cutting production to keep the price of oil inflated and supplies low , the only thing we as consumers can do is decrease our consumption to increase supply .
