TnRidge, knowing what you just said shouldn't we regulate the price of gas at a time when Oil Companies are making record profits...Sometimes Oil Co's making more in one quarter than the entire GDP for some countries. The same countries that the oil companies claim are now developing and increasing demand there by driving the prices up. I say this to the Big Oil Companies, REMEMBER WHERE YOU COME FROM!!!

I'm lucky enough to have several lakes/rivers within a 30 mile radius of my house. I should add that they all have decent to excellent fishing, depending on the time of year.
I got 3 diesel cans of fuel the other day for my tractor and RTV. I only put 4 gal. in each one, so it doesn't spill when you tip it before you get it to the tank.
    $46
    That hurts.
Do gooder since April 26, 2009!

I am 6 miles from High Rock, 11 miles from Tuckertown, and about 16 from Badin...all have excellent fishing... When I get to the lake, I don't fly up and down the lake. I just putt putt along.... so I am somewhat luckier than some that have to drive much further. And I discovered a old friend of mine has a boat dock on Buttle Creek that he does not even use. Might hit him up to moor the boat there sometimes to save gas.

Haven't you heard? They are self regulation. Just like our government.

The price of gas is definitely going to have an effect on where I fish. As a matter of fact I have decided not to go to Canada fishing this spring and go locally. I believe that they regulate the price of gas in Canada. It's about 5.50 or 6.00 a gallon. All that tax they put on it.

I saw an article the other day and then heard a discussion that was pretty interesting. The theme was that a lot of people (and I'm talking about people with big bucks) are limiting the amount of money they invest in the stock markets right now because of the uncertainty. They needed some place to put the money they pulled out and have gone into commodities futures. They are buying oil futures betting that it will keep increasing and have driven the price up to a really stupid price. Yesterday it went down about $4 a barrel and today it went back up about $4. They are also buying grain futures betting that the bio-fuel industry will take off. That has run the price of corn, soy beans and wheat out the roof, therefore food prices get a double whammy. Basic raw material plus fuel and transportation cost.

I suppose that we could put a price cap on gas, but I don't think it would help. A majority of the people speculating on this stuff do not live in the US and none of our laws woud effect them. The people supplying this stuff won't sell at a loss and if they can't sell it here for a profit, they will sell it somewhere else. It might not be right, but that's how it works.

I think that the only way we can ever get prices down or at least stable, is to start more drilling. If we could drill in Alaska, or even in the gulf where the Chinese are drilling with Cuba's blessing, it would give us more of a domestic supply, and help hold the price down. Since we buy over half of our oil outside the country, the president, no matter who the president is, can't do much to control it. If some of our great public servants would take the tax (I think here in TN about 45 cents a gallon) off it would certainly make the pain less, but when has the govt ever given us back a tax?

Maybe I'm just being gloomy about this, I know it is definitely not good, but then life ain't necessarily fair anyway. When I retired I downsized my outboard to a 40hp. It's definitely not as much fun and the 200 but it sure uses less fuel.

    Anyway just my opinion.

The fastest way to save the economy is REGULATE the PRICE OF REGULAR GAS TO $1 a gallon and watch the other spending TAKE OFF LIKE A ROCKET, but at $4 a gallon, we can't and WON'T spend on other stuff. All the President is doing is letting his buddy's get rich at the expense OF AMERICA. Duhhhh...All of the $$$ in the economy is being taken up by the Oil Companies causing trickle down issues in other sectors. Get this gas crap under control and the rest will follow. Cut the Head off the snake and what happens?
I totally agree...THIS GAS PRICE IS DRIVING US ALL IN THE HOLE!!!!Almost Everthing we touch has transportation attached to it..and guess what we are paying!!They say high commodity prices are driving this..not true high oil prices are driving the commodities..wait till a pound of ground beef is 6 bucks!!! I have seen this coming for a couple years..Something has to give in this gas price or it will burst!!

Definitely going to slow me down or at least keep me closer to home more often. Not a big fan of Taylorsville but I guess I am going to have to use it a little more this year because it's so close to home. I sure envy you guys with the good lakes so close to home. I hope to be that lucky some day.

OK, so Exxon BUYS a BARELL of oil...Guess what guys...THEY HAVE NO COST IN IT AT THAT POINT. Other than the cost of that oil. They didn't have to drill for it, nothing. Now the refine it and TRUST me 50% of the 55 gal will become gas at $3 a gal and the other 50% will be diesel and motor oil, other fluids, etc. they will make a profit on the imported stuff...Just look at the reports. If they are importing HALF of their oil and making 100 billion in profits in a year, 50 billion of it came from IMPORTED OIL. How many oil rigs are in the gulf. how much oil do we produce in the US. I think what LAG said makes sense...more oil rigs might be the answer. We given them tax breaks to build them...WHERE ARE THEY?
