    Default Yesterday’s big adventure

Left the house with sxs and trailer in tow, plans to hunt noon till dark then again today. Had nabbed my wife’s truck, cause I’m getting soft. Easy ride, auto trans, heated seats yah know?

Got about 20 miles from the house, decided to stop and fill up w gas. We have bad weather coming in and all.
As I pulled up to the pump, saw steam coming out from under hood.
Quick look at the gauge, still normal temp. Shut it off and popped hood, water pump in process of losing seal.

Whoo boy. As I’m sitting there pondering whether to fill it up with water and try to make it back home, or call my wife and have her pick one up and bring tools to me -

A gentleman filling up next pump over ask if he can help. Told him what was going on, he said I can load it and haul it home for you. I didn’t want to inconvenience anyone that much, so I thanked him and said I’d take care of it. He said I’m going to get another truck to fill up, think about it and I’ll be back in 10.

Long story short, I accepted the offer. He pulled my sxs down to his house, we dropped it and I helped him hook up the flatbed. Loaded up my truck and he carried us home.
Went back and got my trailer w my truck. Both me and my wife tried to pay him, he wouldn’t have it. Said just help someone in the future.

Picked up a water pump on the way home and spent the rest of the evening putting it on. Now here I sit in the blind again. Just let a doe walk while I was writing this, 50 yard chip shot…. May end up regretting that, but it’s early, and she looked young. I try to pick the ones past their prime.

Well waiting payed off. About 3:00 a buck came out of the head-high brush to my left, and I brought the thunder down on him. Sorry didn’t get pic, but he’s just a 13” spread so-so 6 pt, but I’m tickled. Just now got him gutted and swung under the boat shed. It is slicked over here now, freezing rain sleet snow.
    What a day
