Seen my buddy do the same thing on a dock down at Weiss ... and he was standing ON the dock He took about 4" off the end of one of his Berkley Cherrywood rods. Not sure he ever used it again, and probably just bought another one to replace it.
The Gods of shooting docks demanded their pound of flesh today. After a fish of 2 they fish would go cold on a color. I had 3 rods rigged up and In rotation a B&M sharp shooter, and All Star dock shooter ( both 6' rods) and finally am Okuma Celio 7.5 footer. The okuma is a more flexible rod so it whips pretty good. I got too close to the dock structure and smacked the tip of the rod breaking off and inch and the tip guide. It will be an easy fix.. Now I will have a long custom built dock shooting iron

I sacrificed a nice good shooting little Cherrywood several years ago to the metal frame of a boat lift

You guys play a tough game. I guess I baby my stuff a lot. I haven’t broken too many and those were totally my fault when trying to get out of a hang up and not pulling with the rod straight. They only flex so much!
