Michigan Attorney general advised all stations to NOT price gouge! We have some of the highest prices in the lower 48 most times.

Here is how our state works. On Monday afternoon prices go down (because people from the weekend filled up on Sunday). On Thursday morning, prices go up (they got smart because people filled up on Thursday for the weekend). Funny thing. During the week, gas might be 2.45, then go up to 2.65, then back down to 2.55. It is priced to make you think prices went down when the average remained far above the norm.

It was 2.69 on my way to work this morning. We have refineries in the Detroit area and across the bay in Wisconsin. And it still doesn't matter. Heck, I have a pipeline that runs through my property!

Two refineries shutdown in south Texas are the largest in the states. Weird how prices immediately go up on futures, but don't fall at the same rate. Ironically I get a small discount on Exxon/Mobil gas. I retired from ExxonMobil in Baton Rouge. But I moved to a town that has no Exxon/Mobil stations.....

Just paid $2.49 here in MA. Just the beginning I fear. By Tuesday, it'll be up another $.10 - .15 for sure.

Part of the problem is moving the gas to where it is sold. With so many road closed there are a lot that is not moving as the trucks can not drive through all the water. Then they re-route gas for other places to send down here to try and help and that makes for a shortage at some places for a little while and some stations just closed. Anyway there is more at play that just not having enough due to refiners closing down which there are more than 2!

Still there is a lot of price gouging going on and here in Texas the penalty has been increased so here at least they better what their step and have been warned to this! If someone is caught, the price is 25,000 per sale and if the person is over 65 then penalty is 250,000 per! Looting really got some issues too, but their penalty in times like this is also bumped up. Heck when this storm first came in there were 2 robbers in separate incidences that were shot and killed, so got what they deserved!

It just chaps me that when prices go up say 20 cents a gallon overnight, it take 2 months for it to come back down to the original price. We always get somewhat of a bump in price being here by the lakes on a holiday weekend.
