    Default Honoring a Hero

I have lived in the same county in East TN my entire life, which is 57 years. This past week, one of our police officers was answering a domestic disturbance call. As it turns out, this was an ambush situation, and a brave hero lost his life in the line of duty. This morning, he was transported to his final resting place. As I took the route that he would soon travel, the pictures below represent the respect our small mountain community wished to show this hero. Over the past few days, officers from several surrounding areas have helped patrol, as the local officers dealt with this huge heartbreak. Today, I saw countless cruisers from neighboring counties, cities, etc., who turned out to show respect for this brave soul. RIP officer Moats. At his funeral he was issued his final call, with the words "We will take it from here."

Please feel free to move if I should have posted elsewhere.

Prayers for the family.. it's a very poor world we live in now, heroes should not be villoanized, they should be commended for their great courage to protect our freedoms. I will leave it at that, otherwise risk being in violation of the rules. Thank you for your service Mr. Moats. God Bless

Prayers sent for the family. So sad to hear news like this. Law officers just don't get the respect that they did in years past.

My prayers for the family also. Times like this I'm at a loss for words. I can't imagine the grief the family is feeling right now.

I lived in Tennessee for 10 years and was pleasantly surprised at the respect that Mr and Mrs Everyday give to those that have passed away. I have seen a funeral procession go through an intersection in the little town we lived in and folks having to wait would get out of their car and pray or just stand with their head bowed and their hats off. I doubt they knew who the procession was for. Nothing like that happens here. The turn out and respect shown doesn't surprise me at all.

God Bless the man who walked into harms way and lost his life while doing his job protecting you and I.

You are exactly right about how people stop for a funeral procession, but it doesn't seem as common as it once was. We seem to be in too much of a hurry nowadays. I realize this happens too often with police officers, but not here. This officer had just recently been promoted to the narcotics division, and happened to be in the area when the call came in. Seeing this community come together, made my heart swell and break at the same time.

Yes it is a sad time that we live in. Prayers for the family and fellow officers as they deal with this tragedy.
