    Default Ever stole a spot?

I have to share this. It is too funny to me!

I don't fish right under people, but this is a public metal T-Shaped dock on Lay Lake.

So I went to the lake to fish for the very first time at this lake with my minnows and bobber. I had 2 poles running. God forbid both go down at the same time! haha. But there was this man fishing. He has been there since 9am. It was going on 1pm at this point when I got there. I politely walked up and asked him if he was catching anything and he said, "Nope, not one bite even!" So I was like ok, I'll give this a go I guess for a few hours. We chatted for about ten minutes as my poles were in the water.

Approx. 15-20 minutes later, BAM! Crappie slab!

Approx. another 10 minutes later, BAM! Crappie slab!

Approx. 30 minutes later, BAM! BAM! 2 Crappies at the same time! haha

Needless to say, I left the scene and I know he was pissed. haha. He was there from 9am to 1pm not one bite. I show up and they attack my minnows. He was using the same bait and they weren't hitting his line at all. I felt so bad. I asked him if he wanted a few and he said, "no thanks." I told him I'll meet you back here next weekend. haha. He said, "ok!"

Anyone else experienced something like this? Lets here your story ...

I don't know if I would call it "stealing a spot" more like "stealing the show" maybe

With that said, I have experienced this before. I've seen it fishing in a boat and some days it seems someone just cannot hold the rod right. The next day, it is the other way around. More to do with jigging. As for fishing with a float, there might have been a number of factors that contribute to the "why" in your case.

First, I would say that it could very well have had something to do with what was on his hands. Did he stop and pump gas, put sun screen on, bug spray... it could be anything. The other thing is sometimes as simple as the color of the float. Was yours clear and his orange... or yours chartreuse. Sometimes it can be the smallest of things. Were you using a an Aberdeen hook and him using a bronze hook? Was he using 1/64 oz split shot while you were using 1/32 oz.

There are days when it doesn't seem to matter. I think what really separates good fishermen from guys that go out and catch fish is the details they pay attention to. If you take a closer look at the situation, things might not be all as they seem to be. As a good fisherman, if you can figure out the "why" you have won the battle! He may have had different minnows, purchased at a different bait shop. Sometimes it is the smallest of details that "could" make all the difference. Of course, we will never really know for sure, but I'd be willing to bet that something was slightly different.

LOL @ Obsessive Crappie Disorder. You guys trip me out man!

Yeah, I was using orange slip bobber, 1/16 jighead gray with a minnow eyeball on it with tuffies. Clear line 8lb test. I twitch my minnows every now-n-then to make them wake up. And I'm very quite!

He was using red line with the white/orange slip bobber with a spring on it. He was using the same minnows from the same store.

I use very light line, and always clear line. And fishing on a dock, I walk extremely light footed. Don't want to spook em.

Sometimes just a few feet can make a difference whether depth or location . Many times I see folks fish over a spot and go in and catch fish with jigs right where they bombed out . At times fish are tight to cover or suspend at different depths and it is up to you to figure it out . Those in boats with good electronics do have an advantage .

We were both fishing 4ft. lol. He was using this slip bobber. I was using the peg float. The water is murky. Now this weekend the weather channel says its supposed to be 57 Thursday and 61 Friday. Oh, I'm there baby!!! Same setup. Peg orange bobber, 4ft deep, minnow with 1/16 jighead.

Sometimes it can't be explained. I fished over brush one time and my partner was kicking my rear. I was at times touching his rod tip with the exact same jig, same depth and still I could not get bit??

I couldn't wait a month, just not in me. I called a friend once and told him I had a couple of hours, let's meet at the pond on captain st. Living closer he has fished for 20 minutes or so. We both using plastics or Rapala's as best I can remember. I rig up and walk down to the waters edge and slowly wade in a ways. Pond isn't too big so it's not all that far. I have a Rapala #7 on. Cast it 3 or 4 times and it gets sucked up by a LMB about a pound and a half. Now he's just this side of furious. It all ended well but it was tough for a minute. He later became very good at just going to any lake and catching a few. We all know it just goes like that sometimes.

I lived in OK for a while and was fishing a creek with timber for a good while and a fella walks up next to me and drops his minnow up against the wood on the other side from me and barely closes the bail when the bobber goes south and , you guessed it, a toad crappie on the line. I couldn't buy a fish. Fishin, not catchin.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
