K thanks just curious been thinking on chickens for awhile. Fixing to build the ol lady a coop for valentines. Got her 25 pullets on the way now. Crappuepapa you got any pics of your coop? What kinda chickens you got?
I don't have any pics but I can explain the coops to you. The oldest coop I have is 20'X20'. I built it out of scrap 2x4 I had laying around and some used Chicken wire an old man gave me just to get it off his farm. At first it looked pretty good but after 6 years, it's needing some TLC. The chicken house is simply a couple of sheets of 3/4 CDX screwed to 2x4 frame with 3 nesting boxes in the back of the house. The outside of the I built a door that pivets down so I can gather eggs without having to actually get inside the coop if I don't want. (More about this in a minute).
The other coop I have is also 20x20 framed with new treated wood and new chicken wire and it is holding up great. The Chicken house I built similar to a garden shed and is 10x16 with a gable roof, vents. I cut 3 windows and screened them for air circulation. A manual shoot door to the yard that I can open or close as the weather dictates. It has seven nesting boxes built from shallow sided plastic milk crates that I put 1/4 inch wafer decking in the bottom of.
Is this your first foray in chickens? If so, the most important thing to remember is that they will need a constant supply of fresh water. This is important for them to keep their vent lubricated. If the vent dries they can get seriously deathly ill.
Oh, and you'll be asked this a lot: Q. How many roosters do you have? A. none Q. Then how do you get eggs?
I have mostly RIR (Rhode Island Red) 25, Barred Rock 1, Buff Opington 1, and 2 dominickers.
We get between 15-19 eggs a day. My Barred Rock is the oldest and she's not productive any longer but she was our first girl and we're kind of partial to her. DON'T NAME YOUR CHICKENS!!! Every couple years I get a new batch of day old chicks and get rid of the oldest layers. They go to the feed store where they sell for about 8 bucks each.
I tell ya, we love our chickens. Anybody says chickens are stupid don't know what they are talking about. And every one of them have their own personality. My buff will come sit on my lap and peck at my overall buttons for as long as I want to sit there.
If you have the pictures in a file on your computer, then follow these directions :

Stilly trying pappy. I'll figure it out
[QUOTE=crappiepappa;2553783]I know I've posted a step by step procedure on how to post pics from your computer files, but I just can't seem to find it.
I have posted the procedure for posting pics from the hosting site, Photobucket ... but, they updated & changed their website procedure and made all those instructions useless. I've just never gotten around to posting how it's done, now. I'm no computer geek/guru, but I just keep fiddling around until I figure out how it's done, or get help from Slab or "G"
I'll keep looking around, and if I find that "how to" post ... I'll post it here.
