personally i dont care what the state says...if I need to defend myself with lethal force im going to, period.....id rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6
what does your state say about defending yourself, with lethal foce, in a boat (aka motor vehicle)? is it the same as a car and home? what about an ice shanty (with registration) numbers on it? i know a shanty isnt like a vehicle but its registered and licenced in some states, just like vehicles.
whats your thoughts and state laws?

I think the biggest misunderstanding about "The Castle Doctrine", especially among my more liberal friends, is the it gives me the right to defend my "castle". my understanding is the it removes the requirement to retreat and prevents me from being prosecuted for doing so.
As far as I am concerned, the right to defend my family and home is an inherent, God given right.
BTW, most COE lakes prohibit firearms, at least in Texas... I did read an article a while back that a judge over ruled on this for CHL holders. Have not heard much more about it though.

Don't leave home without it. Most of the folks who share my boat are also carrying. Never had to touch it and hope I don't.

I guess it depends on if your state is a stand your ground or duty to retreat. Kinda hard to retreat from a boat. Understand what desparity of force is, I think you will be good to go. However, if someone threatens you verbally I wouldn't be one bit shy about unholstering my weapon.
I don't carry my gun in public. It is heavy and pulls my britches down.

As I understand the law in NC, anywhere you are dwelling, house, car, camper, hotel room, even a tent is considered a dwelling and you can defend yourself without persecution as long as you have the right to carry in the situation you are in.
NC is an open carry state....you have the right to carry just about anywhere as long as its visible if you dont have a CCP...but the OP was referring to a boat, just have it in plain sight like you would in your car......thats here in NC...he's from Indiana looks like....probably different there
