Default Wal-Mart doing away with layaway

I was told about a month ago that Wal-Mart was going to do away with their layaway and not have it anymore. I didnt believe it but now it is in the news so it is true. I hate to see this happen simply for the fact that less fortunate people will be badly affected by it. If it were not for layaway at Wal-Mart, what little my mother was able to provide for me growing up would have been even harder for her. She sometimes found something she wanted to get for me and my brother and had to put it on layaway before people with more money bought it. Kids will be the ones who have to suffer from this. I know how hard it is for lower income families to provide for their children, I have been there in the past. Yes there are still other stores that provide layaway, but whose to say they wont follow suite, and they are generally cheaper than other stores which further helped the less fortunate.

Thumbs down Should have expected it...

Have you ever noticed that when you find something at WalMart that you like, they discontinue it?
Many times I go there for something I've bought there before and poof they dont carry that anymore.
If you like it, they take it away. We liked layaway didnt we?

This is why I am going to shop elsewhere this holiday season, It really seems that the world is driven by the rich, and they do not see the pain that they cause by there actions. But, it looks like David Glass needs to save money for his baseball team so.....what a shame.

MrsSlabHunter, you are totally correct on that. Everytime you find something you like, then they quit carrying it. I've asked them why they do that and they say because alot of their stuff is stocked individually by different companies. I asked them can they not call and reorder from them and they always give me the run around and say, they bring us what they want us to sell. I hardly bellieve that.

I don't shop @ walmart. They pay there floor workers nothing and their health care for the employes sucks. They make billons! I support the local people here in town and if it cost more I don't care. Most of the mom and pop places are gone in my small town because of wall mart. People keep buying there tho.

I believe the reason is because so many people use credit cards these days (I don't use one except for emergencies). They can swipe the plastic and take the goods home and then make the payments instead of making payments then getting the goods. It may end up hurting there sales during the holidays though.

One of the problems you run into with credit cards is this. I had a low income job at one time and had never had credit before, so getting a credit card was out of the question, alot of low income people do not have credit cards. I have a good job now and still do not do the credit card deal. If I dont have enough money in the bank to use my check card, I just dont get it. Some people are not that fortunate though.
