Angry pleasure boaters hired while fishing fleet sits idle....

Foxnews ran a story the yesterday and now it's been lost amongst the babble from BP so I apologize for the lack of a link to support but this story estimated that some 1900 boats had been hired by BP as part of a cleanup effort. Foxnews reported that some 90% of those boats hired were pleasure boaters often, and I quote, "often owned by doctors and lawyers" while unemployed fishermen sit idle at the docks. I have to think that it has been the outspokenness of the fishing community against BP that is responsible for this lopsidedness. What do ya'll think?

I saw that this morning. If I was BP, I sure wouldn't hire a lawyer to come scope that situation out in his own boat.
I can't imagine a lawyer out working a crusty old crabber or fisherman in that situation anyway. It will be interesting to hear their response; if they give one.

But it is only the rich, when unencumbered by excessive taxes, who can create a job for the poor. Unless, of course, it's a new government job, which creates no goods or services, and demands four of us paying taxes for one government salary.

Sorry guys - can't have it both ways. Socialist Europe or a free supply/demand capitalist economy. Wonder which has worked the best in the last 100 years??

So in your mind, the rich guys should be getting this work instead of the fishermen who are out of work for the next two to three years?? Just trying to get it straight. I know that wealth creates prosperity and I know that capitolism is based on this principle. Though I was born poor and will surely remain so without a windfall such as the one the rockefellers might receive as a birth right, I do not completely hate those in that position. It is however human for those in a helpless position to resent those who continue to do "just fine" by most standards. My only reason for posting this is to point out what I believe to be an injustice perpetrated by a corporate giant who has NO regard for the lives they are trampling on in the name of profits. I also believe that were we not deep in the midst of a quagmire in two wars, you'd see thousands of troops on the beaches of LA and AL and FLA helping to contain this mess. However, the National guard, which is supposed to be just that a guard for the nation.....OUR nation and not some desert nation is otherwise indisposed. Pity huh?

    Oh well!

I know if I owned a big expensive boat or yacht, the first thing I would want to do with it is drive it through a massive oil slick.

I think that story is a crock!

Just my opinion, but I think those BP execs who let this happen ought to be given a nice oil sludge bath, then fired and have all their money, savings, retirements, luxuries, and anything else they earned from that taken away. Then put them in prison after they were sent to do any kind of bs work that all the fisherman who are losing their livelyhoods can put them through.
    Again, just my opinion.
It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D

The commercial fishermen I don't feel sorry for.

The people that make their livelihood on the summer tourist trade along the Gulf coast I feel very sorry for!.. and it's a heck of a lot more people than a few scroungy commercial fishermen, I'll tell you that!

I'm sure they dont do the driving slick....and the boats are diligently cleaned after duty. The reason fishermen are sitting idle is because they are talking trash about BP. But of course under GCD'S rules there would be no fishing in the gulf without rods and reels anyway.... I guess the folks in Kansas dont like shrimp and if they do they better high tail their arses down to the ocean to get their own with a teeny tiny rod and reel aint that right GCD?
