John, I usually can find some sense in what you say as I lean left a lot too. But this is an ignorant statement. The confederacy was not about slavery. It seems the spin machine was at work even back then and has continued through the school books today. The south started then what should have been carried out and what should be continued today. They took on the government and told them to pound sand. And it was not about slavery. In fact, there were still slaves employed in the north long after the war had ended.
It amazes me how many people think the civil war was about black vs. white but of course when they teach you that in school it's hard not to believe. I will close by saying that a VAST majority of the northeners I meet are immensely more racist than the southerners I meet and know. Folks from the big city detest blacks from my experience.
As for the kkk flying the confederate flag, they also fly the american flag. Is that a racist symbol as well? Black folks dont fly the confederate flag because it does not mean anything to them. I wouldn'y fly a nigerian flag either. Dont want to fight or anything, but this was an ignorant post.

I was stationed, for a year, aboard the USS Wasp in Boston..This was in 1962...Until this day I have not seen a more segregated & racist city than Boston, MA...And john, they don't fly the Rebel flag in Boston..
