Two months ago, I would have never thought this would happen. He was a likable fellow. I am a trusting person as most of the people my age are.

I am just pi$$ed. I don't regret trusting the man. You have to have faith in your fellow man. He broke the trust, now the devil is gonna get him.

I will stay after him until he relents, repents and repays.

Some c.comers have seen the mess. I got a neighborhood of witnesses and they are retired. They will go to court with me. Gives us something to do.

You fellers can call him and ask him if he knows me. Ask him where my lift is too. That will make his day.

Everyone is invited to take a look if you want. C.comers have always been welcome and a lot have stopped by.

CP, How do they determine the difference between a civil case and a criminal case? Seems he is guilty of theft, and possibly grand theft depending on the amount. I'd press the issue that you aren't going after him for shoddy workmanship, but rather theft. You paid him money up front, specifically to be used for paying the lift company. When he didn't pay the lift company, I'd say that's the same as stealing the money out of you wallet!
I'm sure the loss of the money is a big factor, but I'd bet that dock of your's was a dream long in completion. Now for this to happen it just takes all the joy from it. I hope the tables are turned on him someday.

I hate to see stories like this but it seems to happen all of the time. This type of thing is what makes the construction industry look bad. It gives us ALL a bad name.
I had a woman call me about a playhouse she was having built in her back yard. A man was building her a 10' x 12' playhouse in her back yard and she said he was not doing it right. I went and looked at it and I felt so sorry for these people. Long story short, they had already paid this man about$7,000 for what he had done and then it cost them another $2,000 dollars in labor and materials for me to fix it. He took them to the cleaners!!
I hope you can nail this guy because it is jerks like him that make people wary of all others in the construction world.
To make life enjoyable, you must have crappie days.

I have no real clue, but I am sure it involves money. Extradition costs money.

Intent is also a factor. They decided his intent was not fraud. I don't know how they determined this as he took money and skipped town.

The BBB is worthless. They just send letters which is just thrown in the trash. He is not a member of BBB.

BBB just kinda brushed me off.

I will peruse this matter now. Money is not the factor. He lied to me. That is the factor.

I will hound the hell out of him. You can count on this.

This makes a good OT topic/discussion too.

I guess I will Twitter and Youtube him some too.

I might turn the matter over to a collection agency and let them hound him some too. This should make him happy.

It is galvanized, but I don't know the thickness. MY wife and I truly appreciate this kind gesture.

I am going to leave the dock as is until we get through small claims court (just in case).

The dock is functional. Most is complete and is good shape. What is sloppy is the gangway rails, the fishing platform railing, and the wiring. Of course, no lift.

Thanks again for your kind gesture.

Anytime you want to come up and go fish, pm me.

That is absolutely a terrible wiring and welding job. Hope you find the goof.

The poor welding and the sloppy wireing can be fixed, but I sure hope you can at least get your money back for the lift that you paid for and did not get.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
