    Default 07-09 Diesels

Does anyone here have a Ford, Chevy or Dodge in this year range with a Diesel? If so Have You had any problems with the emissions crap on them? My Dad and I bought New trucks this year. 09 Dodge rams with Cummins diesels. They have been nothing but trouble and all emission related. Mine has been towed in twice with less than 20000 miles on it. Dad's is was showing the same symptoms but was able to get his in in time. Exhaust is filling up with soot and the trucks wil not regenerate unless You are pulling something. have heard problems are abound with All makes. Some regenerate and some do and there are problems either way. Would like to hear Your experiences with these vehicles and I will go into more depth as well. CF

Glad mine is an 04 no smog junk on it.:D Theres a few here(Around West Tn) having issues like that.
One of them jumps in and does not allow his to warm up any just takes off then he drives for the most part 5 miles and shuts it back down. You have to run long enough to heat these trucks up. Under power of towing or longer run time. Allow a few minute's for the motor to warm, then don't lug it. Keep the RPM's up one trip per week. That is what a local shop has issued to there owners. And the ones doing it. Well there issues are heading in the right direction. But you have to get it hot enough to burn the dumped fuel or it can't burn the soot out. Not sure these trucks are going to work for most drivers. AS the Diesel motors are made to work. Thus heat and heavy towing.
Shoot My Duramax got a work out 2 weeks ago. 8000 lbs or pellets and the 18ft trailer. Time to get ready for winter. But then again mine is pulling a trailer or hauling 3500 lbs and towing most times.
Good luck and hope your truck and your dads can get help.

I have an 07.5 GMC with the LMM engine and all the emmisions junk still on it. I have 65,000 on it now and the only problem so far is the regens bring my MPG down from about 18.5 to about 16. Other than that it's been a good ride.
Mine will regen about once every tank no matter what. I also run a PPE turner set on level 1 most of the time.

Thanks guys. Mine has never gone into a regen and nor has My dad's. It seems Dodge saw that Ford was having problems with the regens causing problems at stops and running idol with catching the road sides on fire, blistering paint on cars at stop lights and other problems. So Dodge set them up to only regen over 30 mph and if You hit the brake, the regen stops. In order to keep the trucks cleaned out, You have to pull something heavy or drive it like You stole it. They have ruined these motors with this junk. My old truck is a 99 Dode with 5.9 cummins and got over 300000 miles out of it. Dad has over 450000 on his 94 5.9 Cummins. The motors are good. Its the trash that is being put on them that chokes them down.

In the regen process, all You are doing is burning the soot to ash so that You don't see the black "smoke". This is supposed to be cleaner. BUT, You are burning twice the fuel so You are putting out twice the carbon Monoxide, the real pollutant by burning more fuel. the EPA has ruined on road diesels in the name of a cosmetic fix. Heard the new 2010 Dodges would be running a urea set up with the EGR to help with some of the issues. That is great. Now in order to get the truck to run better, they are going to run Nitrogen on them. They will run just fine If You take the junk off and let them breathe. Caterpillar is going to quit putting engines in on road applications next year. they are throwing their hands into the air and saying the he77 with this. i don't blame them. I know someone who owns a Ford and a Chevy that are having the same issues and it turns into a cussing fit when brought up in a conversation. The big three need to do something. All Toyota has to do is introduce a diesel that runs with this crap and they will have it all. CF

I have heard that the GM trucks seem to be handling the emissions junk better. Know a guy that has one who has had it at the dealer as much as He has drove it though. CF

Drive that truck as long as You can. Give them time to get this crap reslved before You buy a new one.

I have talked to a few folks that pull a trailer around doing contract work. They have told Me that they have had very little trouble. Pulling the load is the key. CF

I have been hearing all that too - gonna hang onto my '02 long as possible.

Something you might consider, if you can talk frankly with your dealer
and somewhat trust them - a lot of folks are deleting the egr and dpfe
stuff off the new trucks, and I have heard SOME of the Dodge dealers
were looking the other way, NOT trying to void warranties over it.
The delete kits aren't exactly cheap from what I've heard, but will do away
with the stuff without freaking out the computer and keeping the check engine
    light on all the time.

Seems they are learning it's their choice, either keep working on the exhaust system
under warranty until maybe the customer whacks 'em with a lemon suit
and they have to buy it back - or look the other way and let 'er run.

Yea so far the only time mine has been to the shop was for service. But I drive alot, I got my truck in Jan 08 and have put 65000 on it in little over a 1 1/2 years, I also pull a trailer a good bit of the time. But it still goes into regen every tank full or about every 350 to 400 miles and it kills my MPG.
So I just can't figure how this is better. But as soon as the warrenty(SP) is up the DPF is gone :D, I can do a DPF delete with my turner and no more regens :D

Well the DPF delete with turner and exhaust system runs about $2000.
On the warranty thing it's not the dealer thats make the choice to cover it or not it's the company, they will look at your ECM history to check for changes and reflashes to see if your using a turner or other after market parts. So even if the dealers looks the other way when installing it when you have problems they will not be able to help you. So that's why I'm waiting on my warranty to end then it all mine, and I will have a 100000 on it too. :D
