Alot of members haven't been here long enough to know about some of the "problems" that this site has encountered. Things that started off innocently enough, then got "personal", ultimately resulted in several members leaving and some getting banned. Rules were put into place to discourage repeat behavior & results. This OT board was created, by member demand, to cut down on the amount of posts unrelated to the original intent of the site, from gumming up the Main Message Board. It was never intended to be a "anything goes" forum, nor was it conceived as a political/religious/sexual preference debate club. The rules are explicit enough, concerning those topics, as well as what the results/consequences will be for those that defy them.

And I concur, on your fears of what the results might be ... if things continue "as is". I've already alluded to that, several times.

Members post things on the Main Message Board, that are violations of the house rules ... I find them, or they're reported, and they're edited or deleted. 9 times out of 10, I get a PM apologizing for the errant post or contents. I find rules violations on this board, exercise my duty as SuperModerator and bring it to the attention of the posting members ... and I get weeping & wailing & gnashing of teeth. I don't even edit or delete a thread, just remind the posting members that there's another place for those topics ... and I'm the "bad guy". When I do edit/delete/close a thread that violates the forum rules (which is my duty as a Supermoderator) ... then I'm lampooned, or accused of stirring the pot, or called down for overpolicing. What's up with that ?? How long do people think this site would last, if there were no rules, or no one enforcing them

One other popular fishing website, that I know of, had a single OT forum and lenient moderation ... the same problems occurred there, and they totally banned any further mention or discussion of the topics. Here's a copy of that policy :

"Posting Code of Conduct:
Due to the constant problems, fighting, name calling, etc., effective immediately, there will be no Political Discussions of any sort, or topics of a Racial, Religious, or Sexual nature on ANY Board of the *** ******** Forum.
Any Member(s), of any age, that displays a bad attitude and/or disrespects any other Member(s) of the *** ******** Forum, will receive a penalty up to, and/or including, being banned from the Website..."

They didn't even bother to add/allow a secondary OT forum. WE HAVE ... and all we're asking, in return for that privilege, is that it be used for its intended purpose.

Thank you for taking the time to do your job and being one of the team members that make the site successful. It's alot more work than folks realize not to mention it's usually a non-paid position. Your reward is a tag that shows you're a mod and maybe the occasional thanks.

First, I have no problems with any of the guys who participate in the "other" OT forum. My problems with it are: (1) how it got started and (2) where it's located.

With regards to #1, I'll just quote Brother Beaver. I never agree with the Beav, but I agree with him here:


I do remember back to a vote that was suppose to determine the content of the OT forum. Ed said that he was going to leave it up to a vote of the membership what would happen to this OT forum.... Ed ran the vote and the majority of the votes was to leave the OT forum as it was, and the winers didn't have to go to the forum if they didn't like the content.

The minority of voters got their way anyway, and the new OT forum was made, so be it. It is Ed's site, and he can do what he wants with it.... if he wanted to change it, than he should have just done what he did, without the BS vote. I have no intention of joining the other OT forum, that should never have been formed in my opinion.

Everyone complains how God is being taken out of our Gov. and Schools. You just seen how it was done here, on a smaller scale, but still had the same outcome. Hope you are proud of yourselves because you just took the integrity out of this site, and made it into something you all complain about everyday. EB

With regards to #2, I've never understood why it has to be a "separate" board. I feel like it's the "time out" board where certain members are sent when they've been bad. Yes, there have been problems before. Many of those problems were caused by members who actively tried to cause problems. I can think of two members in particular, both of whom have been banned.

And how separate is it? It's no more separate than any of the state boards. Anybody can go to the other OT forum and read all that "bad" stuff. It's just a mouse click away.

Same kind of junk just went down on the MS state board.
Had a good thing going, lots of friendly chatter, and then a
few whiners complain that it's getting in the way of their fishing
talk. A new OT section is started, and nobody is posting any more
fishing topics than before. Looks to me like they didn't really want
to talk fishing, but just to complain. And it was about like throwing
cold water on the board, not nearly as friendly a place as before.
If this is the way ya'll want it, letting a few whiners run the place,
then you can have it.

I have seen some major poo flinging over the near 15 years I have been using the web daily and engaged in chats/forums. I have moderated in the past, and will in the future I'm sure. OUR's is tame by comparison. I used to lurk at a place called "pick a fight", imagine that one. But, with this experience comes some prophecy on the fate of boards that get out of control, and the best thing Ed has done is to create the OTC where that hyper tension and anger can be dished out on civil terms.

Do I see the hatchet being put to this OT, harsh penalties? Oh yeah, without a doubt. Thats why I am trying to inspire folks to take it to the right place. I'll be the one dealing with it. I'm made of Teflon to an extent and it doesn't make or break me either way on any given day, in fact much of it is flat out entertaining and worth a read! It's just getting folks over the hump on the reg process. And I did pm Slab on the matter of the human verification flaws, if any.

Gotta run, kids need "crabby patties", that's burgers for you less than hip on Sponge Bob types.

As for the so called problems that occur within this board, it's always someone crying and moaning about something. If they can't get their way by posting about it, they PM CP or Ed and do their best to stir up trouble. When all they really have to do is not comment about something they don't like, or post a comment, but allow others their opinion.

Most folks of C.C that visit and post in this OT forum are fairly open minded peeps that can go with the flow. It's the llamas that want hope and change that screw it all up. Those clowns know who they are too. Most have probably never clicked on one of the advertising links either. Just by clicking some every now and then helps bring money to the site.

As stated earlier, there are all types of boards here that address Crappie fishing. Those of us that have been around awhile have also read the "What line"?, How Deep?, What's the best color?....over 500 times. This OT board is the main place we can talk about anything to the peeps we have grown to love, or hate in the forum.

Whiners, you go somewhere else or belly up and behave. OOT forum, come on, it's a joke.
