Is there a product like maybe at academy that would immobilize the steering apparatus in the picture?

The frugal in me says a small hose clamp would do the job. I would put a piece of hose under it to stop any scarring

It's called a steering stabilizer. It's an orange plastic piece that snaps on to the steering link. They are about $10 to $15 set.

If this is a console steer you can tie off the steering wheel.

Yes they stay on good and keep the motor from turning. I have several friends use them on their bass boats.

Anybody here feel that transom savers do more harm than good?

I think they can do harm as it ties the motor to the trailer and if there's any bounce it's a lot of jarring on it. Should really just support it to the boat with a wedgie or something. I've seen plastic pieces similar to the steering lock above used on the trim hydraulics for bracing.
