    Default Kayak stability

Fixing ro make a trip to Colorado and want to fish some small lakes close to where we are staying. I am use to fishing and hunting out of a pirogue, but have never been in kayak. Just wondering if they are as stable or I hope more stable than a pirogue. Any feed back will be appreciated. I sure don't want to end up in that cold cold water even with a lifejacket

Fished a pirogue most of my life, but got to the point I could not get out of it without help. Got a kayak Native ultimate fx 12. I am 79 and can fly fish out of it. So you should not have any probs. Have a safe trip. Wear PFD. DOUBT YOU will have stability probs.

Thank you Fred, not to far behind you at 61. I have a little trouble getting in my pirogue might have something to do with the shape I am in, round it you know what I mean.

Very good kayak and there was one for sale on craigslist this past weekend out of New Orleans I believe.
Native Ultimate Kayak 12ft - boats - by owner - marine sale

It is essentially a compact one person canoe and the best part is the weight....paddles easy, good stability, its very durable and weighs about 10 lbs less than the average kayak.
This is one of the best all around kayaks made...other kayaks start sacrificing weight for speed and less stability or the kayak weighs about 100 lbs, is great to stand up in but bad maneuverability and its difficult to lead and unload by yourself.

Pack N Paddle in Lafayette is a great place for information and to put your butt in one and paddle around.
    Good luck
