    Default Opening Day

Today I saw a good Buck. Luck was not on my side. All the years I have been Hunting I have never seen any Deer on opening Morning. when the Buck stepped on the Logging Road that comes in the woods I had walked down to get to the ground stand. At about 130 yards there was a big Grape vine as big around as my upper arm in a direct line of Fire. The buck stepped so there was a good shot with a good steady rest. I squeezed and nothing happened but - Click. I knew the 30.06 was loaded so I ejected the shell. The buck was smelling the ground, now standing behind the vine, I leaned to the side and he steped clear, another broad side shot --- CLICK --- Eject ---- another round. as the deer started to quarter into the woods the gun fired. I missed clean as there was not a drop of blood or a single hair. I picked up the Two Ejected shells and both had strike marks but the dent was not as deep as should be. I marched my Chemo clad But Back to the house and broke the gun down and used Bore cleaner on the Receiver parts and cleaned and wiped down the excess. When I went to Reload the Magazine the shell would not go into the Receiver Bore --- now What --- I had picked up a box of 7mm shells and loaded them in the Magazine ---- I would have been Kicking myself had I not found that something that dumb.

D is on a roll, that was funny.
Sorry on not getting the buck, at least it didn’t blow up on you.

I went back to the Woods and cleared some underbrush to a trail to a bedding area that enters the Food plot. When I was cleaning the Rifle I found the Eye Piece for the Binoculars was missing. Against all odds I found it and put it back on. I returned to the blind I saw the Buck till almost dark. Go home - stay another minute - go home - wait just a few more minutes --- When Go Home won, I started to put the sling back on when I looked behind me where I never watch because it is so thick it is like a wall of Brush. a what -- a Deer --- As I tried to face the other direction I kicked the water bottle out the door...... It took forever for the deer to move and It was a Old Doe. She was silently trying to leave. The Shot cleanly broke the Spine in the Neck And she did not Run.. I was not going to track a deer in the dark.... So against all Odds I got one on opening day.

You might be in a league of your own. Not everyone can do that.

At 20 yards on a slow walk I could pick the spot. I was shocked when I looked up from the [Football] bottle, and she was not Running.
