Tal....this is the recipe that I use and they are good

1 1/2 Cups Sunflower Corn Meal Mix
1 Small (Pull Top) Can Cream Corn
    1 Egg
    1 1/2 Cups Chopped Onion
    2 Tablespoons Chopped Jalapeņo

Mix well and add a little water, a couple of tablespoons, to get the right consistency, and spoon into hot oil. Enjoy
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I cheat when I make them. I use Jiffy corn bread mix but use just enough water to make a thick batter. I add all the same ingredients plus a handful of jack cheese and green onions instead of yellow.

Tal you are right, I was talking hush puppies a while back. It was some that I ate at a restaurant on Lake St. John. I'm not particularly fond of hush puppies but those were to die for, well maybe not die. Anyway I did get the receipt but it was for about 200 puppies and when I tried to break it down it didn't work out right. Sorry I couldn't make it work cuz they were "GREAT''.

PawPaw gene, Could you post the receipt for making 200 hush puppies and let us try to break it down and see if we can make it work for us. I would give it a go a few times and see what I could come up with.

BamaMan, it's been a while since I got it and I'm not sure where it is right now. I will look hard to find it and pass it on to you.

Know this is late, but people from all over the US has eaten these. And most still ask for the recipe.
    2 cups corn meal
    1 cup self rising flour
1 to 1.5 cups of chopped onions.
    1 tea spoon salt
    3 tea spoons black pepper
    1 egg
    part of your favorite beer.

Mix flour and corn meal up in a bowl. Then sprinkle salt and pepper on top. Mix again, then pour the oinons (Yellow) on the mixture. Mix that up and then finish up with your favorite beer or Wild Turkey works great also. Use just enough Liquid to mix everything together good. Wet but not runny. ( U can use milk rather than the beer, But why?) Cover mixture and let it set 3 or 4 hours if you can before you use it. Right when you start to use it, mix well bringing in as much air as you can. but don't over mix.
I use one of these to drop the hushpuppys with.
