    Default The Muscadines are ready

Today I picked a gallon of muscadines. I could of got more but didn't have a tall enough ladder. Monday I will go back with a tarp and some rope to shake the vines. This is a volunteer vine coming out of the compose pile at my parents home. Next to it are banana trees that are volunteer also. I would love to get the dirt out of the compost pile but the yard man threw branches in it for years and its a tangled mess. When I got home I cooked them down to make the juice. I I cooked the grapes down with a little bit of water then passed them through a food mill then strained them with a chinois. It was thick after it boiled with the sugar. Boy it tasted good off the frozen plate. It made 9 pints. I can't wait to eat those biscuits in the am.Name: 20160804_142333_resized.jpg

Looks great Don! I need to find me a place to pick some muscadines. We would freeze the grapes and then take them out and let them start to thaw and eat the grapes. Great on a hot summer day! Makes an excellent jelly too as you already know.

Dwayne are you going to be at Tractor Supply tomorrow? I might go by to check it out. We can discuss where I have seen Muscadines.

Oh by the way those biscuits were good this morning. Only way it could of been better was if they were scratch biscuits. Hungry Jack Flaky had to do the job.

Brought back memories here too. Grandma Irma had me fetch em and she made the jelly. Oh , I've been chasing grandmas biscuits my whole life. Good memories. Thx for this post.

What do you mean when you say "volunteer"? I don't think that I've ever eaten muscadine jelly. I have had the wine, though.
