Bruce, make sure that they put it high off the ground. I recently saw an new installation where they put a generator on a 4 inch slab. I'd want mine at about 3 feet. Torrential rains that come with hurricanes can put a lot of water down in places where it never flooded before. Be wise.

Gene is right about that. How do you plan on installing it to your existing power? Just curious. I originally wired my place for a spot to plug into without modifications.

Sounds like some wise words right there!! Hadn't thought about elevating the generator.

I already checked the City Parish regulations and went over them with the contractor....it has to be 1 1/2 feet above the 100 year flood....my slab is about 1.4 feet below the 100 year flood (revised in 2012), so it has to be about 3 feet above my slab....they will embed steel angles in concrete holes with a flat platform to set the generator on.....you are required to have a flood certificate (which I have from 20 years ago)....

They said the installed one recently and it had to be elevated up to the roof.....

They are installing a transfer switch on the exterior of the house and the entire house will be powered.....that is the easiest and cheapest way...too labor intensive to power a few selected circuits....power goes out...generator comes on.....we are in a location where the power constantly goes out.....install the platform one day....generator in the next day....
