There shouldn't be any in Jordan. There are in the Yadkin chain though. Did you catch one in Jordan?

    Default White Crappie

Jordan Lake has White Crappie. You Will find them around alot of The standing Timber in the Backs of the Creeks usually a little later than the Black Crappies. But they are there and Not as many as it use to be. You should be able to Catch them soon if not already. They have the Vertical Bars on their sides the are usually a little longer than the Black Crappie and Have 5 or 6 Spines on their back. Black Crappie are Splattered with speckles and have 7 to 8 spines . I hope this helps. See ya on the Water !!!

I've never caught one in Jordan nor have I heard of anyone else catching one. I certainly have never seen a picture of a white crappie from Jordan. I've learned how to distinguish between the two, but have just never seen a white at Jordan. I see pictures of whites from the Yadkin chain all the time... so that fishery appears flush with them.

If they're in there, and there probably are some, there must not be many. Caught plenty at HR and Blewett but never at Jordan.

NC wildlife doesn't have too much info. http://www.ncwildlife.org/pg10_outdo...es/crappie.pdf The map on this pdf doesn't appear to cover Jordan as white crappie habitat or anything in east carolina for that matter. Thought I'd heard of guys catching them in the Cape Fear but maybe they don't know white from black? Can be confusing sometimes if you don't count the spines. HR crappie have very distinctive lines.
Can't imagine why a small population couldn't exist in Jordan though. Any biologists on here?

I'd rather not catch the whites, they are always smaller than blacks. Tight lines.

    Default White Crappie

You don't see alot of Pictures of them from Jordan. However they are there. I think the Comorants have taken a toll on them. They are alot thinner and usually ten Black Crappie the same size will weigh alot more than 10 White Crappie. A Comorant has no problem eating a White Crappie. They can eat up to a 2 lb Bass. But i can tell you that they are there for sure. You don't catch alot of them on the Main Lake. The usually like Dingy water and really like wood to be close by, but not always. I know in Buffaloe Creek up at Kerr you catch them year round clear or Muddy. I guess it depends on how many there are in the Lake. But Guy's trust me they are there.

Oh, I believe you. Just haven't heard it from anyone else before and certainly have never seen any evidence. And even if they were never stocked, I'm sure folks plant some on their own from time to time.

So you think a bird is reducing the white crappie population? Interesting. Sounds like we need to put these Comorants to work.

If anyone catches the elusive Pomoxis annularis at Jordan, please post a photo with my thanks.

    Default Comorants

Yes i wish i could find a baby Comorant and raise him up to catch me some Crappie. But From what i have seen they are pretty good at catching them already. I just don't think they would like to share. You see they are already Competing with about 3000 or more Comorants on Jordan Alone. I have watched them devour a school of small Crappie on Jordan. Them jokers can swim down 30ft. its amazing. I guess they don't have a Burger King nearby. They are awesome fish hunters. and they are Federally Protected. I think the Wildlife people should find a way to reduce their numbers. Somehow. But such is Life!! I will Fish on . Hey maybe we can get together sometime and i'll show you guy's where those White Crappie Are. See Ya. and remember Holler for the Net!!! don't let him get off

I'm thinking they could catch the crappie, act as a trolling motor, and clean the fish back at the ramp to earn their keep. Of course, I'd probaby have to buy one of those pesky "Specialty Fishing Device" licences.

Getting together to find the white crappie would make a worthy challenge. Send a PM if you're up for it. All I want is a picture.
