I used to catch crappie in the upper Cape Fear--above the Buckhorn dam. In fact, I've caught crappie right were the Haw River below Jordan Dam and the Deep River join to make the Cape Fear. Haven't been back in the last few years but have been wanting to go.

Where in the river would you target them? I live 10 minutes from lock #3 and I hate to go elsewhere with such a large span of water that close to home!

    Default Crappie in Cape Fear

I have caught crappie in the convergence of the Haw and cape fear river. I have also caught crappie at the Dam on the haw where Jordan empties into the Haw River. I would suggest fishing below any dam that you can get close to... especially in the spring or late spring....
I have read in one of those NC fishing mags that the middle and lower Cape Fear are good places to use a beetle spin and catch Crappie under the over hanging trees.
Give it a try and let us know. Fishengineer
