    Default High Rock Report 10-19-2008

The lake was rough and windy again today. Put in at Buttle Creek and Abbotts was a little discolored, so I decided on the main channel. I squeezed under the Hwy 8 bridge and headed upstream. Went up to the second cove on the right. Turned around and got the wind to my back. Tightlined and trolled all the way to the mouth of Abbotts on the Davidson side. Bunch of dinks about 8 inches or so...picked up three 10-11 inch fish, still holding in 16-17 foot of water. Anything deeper that 17 or more shallow that 16 didn't give me a fish at all. Went back under the bridge and trolled back toward Buttle Creek, picked up one fish on the way. This beauty was 15 inches long and she weighed 1 lb and 15 ounces. She was 16 1/2 feet deep and I used an 1 oz sinker to get the "Gilby" a custom tied, chartruse and red jig down to her. Darn I wanted to join the 2 pound club. The scales I were using left a lot to be desired, but I am going with what I saw. She had eggs in her to...that made me feel bad. If I had brought a camera and a way of weighting her on the water, she would still be swimming in there. I suspect a 10 inch crappie tastes as good as a 15 inch crappie.

Way to go Poppop. I fought the HIGH ROCK WIND today too, nothing that nice though.
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
