I remember Cape Lookout on 11/2/76, my dad and brother and I caught 76 flounder that averaged 5lbs each. Smallest one was 3lbs and the largest was 10lbs. We had so many fish we had to go to the Davis Fish House in Morehead City to store those fish. I think it was on the water front. All were snaged with a bead chain 2oz lead and a 5/0 trebble hook. No bait at all, the bottom of the hook must have been paved with flounder or were laying on the bottom like shingles on a roof. Never have I seen such a sight and I'm now 47.

The weather was so calm, we went across to the cape from Beaufort Inlet in a 16' Thunderbird Tri-hull. Something I'll never forget.
    I don't fish because I want to, I fish because I HAVE to !

    Moma tried real hard.

several of the fellas that have been going for years refer to times like that as "the blitz" and the rig with two treble hooks they call a "Kelly" rig---they have not hit the blitz for a few years

I lost 8 plugs in one day. If you can find them buy your Gotcha plugs before you go. They're hard to find in Carteret County.
I didn't much try for bottom fishing or flounder cuz I was too busy hooking into Spanish. Watch for sharks -- big ones -- who'll come up under your fish and snatch em! Spots should be running, too.

Lots of time the stell will kill the bite for you. Use 20-30 pound mono or fluoro and accept you may lose a few plugs. When you are at the end of the retreive be sure and let it drop near the base of the pier and vert jig a few times.

If shore fishing probably sea mullet (whiting), some spots (main run hasn't started) some croaker, bluefish, flounder red drum. Buy some local shrimp and keep it as fresh as you'd want it to eat. Only take a piece out of the cooler at a time. Get some gulp bloodworms and real bloodworms. If have a boat still lots of big spanish and some kings near shore.
