Great report Jeremy... I knew you were about the business of collecting slabs somewhere.
Thanks for sharing.

Another weekend fishing frenzy. Donald (PG24) and I fished with the others just north of Rt64--19'-23' deep. We did quite well--as did several other fishermen. The I-pilot makes life so much easier, but I was almost alarmed to see at least 4 other I-pilot rigged boats! On Saturday, a splitshot over a hook worked well as a minnow rig; on Sunday, a dropshot style minnow rig worked best. Both days, however, 1/8oz gold chart or white/chart was the easiest way to fish.
Donald's 2.13 lb slab was a testament to the health of Jordan lake crappies--it wasn't even 15"!! Thanks for coming out Donald!

Looks Like you had a good day for it... I tried to escape but it just was not in the cards today for me.
Come on Donald, I know you got a picture of that monster somewhere! Lets see it. You guys were mopping up when we saw you on Saturday. The wind makes it tough for a shallow draft boat and while I could keep the front in one spot the back end whips around too much. Great report and good seeing you guys again.
Just get him on, then we'll worry about getting him in!
I tried yesterday to post the few pics i had...Technical difficulties for some reason. I will try again after the Holidays.
Happy Thanksgiving ALL!

The fish seemed to have vacated the north side of rt64 for right now--didn't see as many on the Lowrance. I saw a couple boats pull some fish in a little further north, but they weren't getting too many either, it seemed. I did mark some big numbers of fish in various searches within a couple miles north and south of the bridge, but they didn't seem hungry. I ended the day in a shallow 8-15' spot. I can always catch fish there; and although they are usually only 9-11" long, it was some fast action.

Good report Jeremy... Thanks for sharing.
Here lately I feel like I am semi-retired from fishing... I haven't been in over a week.
Hopefully I can go Tuesday of next week... giving the fish a few days after this cold front.

I caught 21 keepers in the first 2 hours--8 over 11". Then the bite slowed and I explored. I found a new spot worth returning to, although it didn't yield much today. I also waypointed a bridge abutment about 1/2 mile south of the 64 bridge. When I had almost returned to my first spot (like, I was only 100yds away), another boat dropped out of plane and pulled up on it...and I mean right on it! Oh well, I guess I did already pull 21 keepers out of it earlier They left the spot with 15 minutes of light remaining...just enough time for me to pull one last 12.5" slab out. The most effective rig today seemed to be a #2 aberdeen/minnow under a #3 earless splitshot. I definitely pulled caught several on jigs, but they seemed to prefer a minnow today.
Probably next weekend before I can launch the boat again

I was hoping that the fish would be more cooperative on a day that is, in part, characterized by massive, relentless feeding. Nope. I started <1mile N of 64. I saw some fish, but they weren't very hungry. I pulled 3 keepers from the water N or 64. I caught the rest of the keepers 1-2miles S of 64 over the top of C.com condos. The pattern was to catch 1 or 3 nice keepers just on top of each condo set, then nothing. In fact, the fish were just within the bamboo tips, as I had to guide my bait just inside the bamboo mass (as it appeared on my Lowrance) in order to coax a strike. I never once saw an arc above the bamboo--again, the fish were nestled within the Phyllostachys twigs. My decision to test the southern waters was made late, and I am confident that if I had caught on to the pattern earlier, I would have had a bit more success.
A 1/32 chart head w/ blk_gld spkl_chart tail was the best color...although a lime grn_chart tail was a close 2nd. They weren't interested in minnows today (at least under my boat). Only 1 keeper on live bait, at the price of four dozen shiners. Dense fog in the AM; brilliant winter sun in the PM.

Where did they go!? Sunday was the first time I've fished that lake and not caught a keeper.

I did some exploring today, launching at Ebeneezer and heading south through the s-turns and back north--even north of Robeson. I marked plenty of fish in Robeson, but only caught a couple chips. Judging by the size of the arcs, I think I was seeing some good fish up there. I tried for the first time the hump that comes up to 8' off the point dividing the Haw from the s-turns. I marked some fish on the steep drop from 13' into 26'. I caught one 11.75" there and had a couple more good fish on--I'll be back! I caught nothing in the s-turns, but like in Robeson, I marked good fish that wouldn't bite. This was in a pocket where PG24 and I nailed them on 2009 Jan 3-4 when the water was 5-7F cooler. I hope they are still there in a couple weeks! So my first and last stop of the day put me on a nice channel cut south of 64. I had meager results in 18-23' where I had good results last week. Once the snow started to fall in my last hour or so of fishing, I found 12 of my 19 keepers a few feet shallower in 16-18'. Seeing some of your reports from yesterday makes me wish i had fished north of 64 too. Oh well--I made a note
White/chart 1/8oz caught the biggest fish
#2 earless splitshot above a #2 aberdeen hook caught most of the fish

Great report as usual Jeremy. I know the feeling as I was exploring on Jordan on Friday when me a buddy suffered too from less results than we had hoped for.
I doesn't bother me though because I believe that people need to explore all the time... trying differing spots... approaches... presentations... and respond to the
various mysterious hunches they have from time to time while on the water.
Occasionally, as you well know... these explorations can bring very wonderful and even unexpected rewards... when that which lies undiscovered is suddenly
revealed to the one making the exploration.
I think 17 keepers caught in new areas is a pretty good day... in anyone's book.
