Mountain Island is between Norman and Wylie. I've never been there but I've heard it is ok but takes a lot of time to learn.

Only once. I cross it daily. Has/had big shell crackers. Not much for crappie from what I understand. It's a mini Wylie/Norman/Badin as far as pleasure boaters and people.

Does this mean it's more of a recreational lake? I just bought a kayak and have been trying to take my kids here without a lot of success.

We used to fish the upper end on Mt Island at the dam above the 73 bridge for stripers. We caught at least a few stripers every time we went. That's a great catfish lake, we caught a 20 pounder (+-) on almost every trip. Once we even caught a 41 pound cat there.

Once the striper regulations tightened, we stopped going.
