    Default Jordan ramps

I read on BBC they're going to close all ramps.
    Don't know if it's true.

I drive by Jordan almost daily and the lake is very high right now. The 64 bridge had water that looked like chocolate milk and the Seaforth ramp was underwater. Sometimes, the smaller creeks open before the larger ramps, but they are usually choked with debris from flooding. You can always check the water level here:

Most ramps are under water when the lake level reaches 224 ft.above sea level. This morning it was 226.59. And there is over an inch of rain in my gage this morning and more to come. It will be at least a week before the ramps will be usable, probably two. Better learn to find fish in Sharon Harris.

Just curious, why does Shearon Harris not flood as badly as Jordan does?

(And where can I find some crappie there this time of year, now that my favorite fishing hole is blown out for at least 1-2 weeks ...?)

Lake Jordan was built with it's main purpose being a flood control res. To protect Wilmington from major flooding

They're inspecting the dam, so they say , and using 6 pumps, had a buddy that went to dam last Friday and said were only using 4 pumps.

Update on BBC, they cancelled inspection of dam, for safety reasons. They opened the trail race, so when down stream can handle , they'll let more out.
So let's hope it we be back to normal next weekend

Main reason Jordan floods ad Harris doesn't is because Jordan has a main river that feeds it. Harris does not.

I just looked and Jordan is 11' above normal level. The lake is doing exactly what it was built to do. Down below the Jordan dam is where Deep River and Haw River join to form the Cape Fear. Deep River has no flood control lake, so typically the Army Corps will let it get back to normal and then open the gates on the Jordan Dam. When they do open the gates up, the most I have ever seen let out is about 3/4 of a foot a day. I would say it will be at least two weeks before Jordan returns to normal provided the rain quits. Harris was built for a totally different reason and like Jack said, no river flowing into it. The watershed is much, much smaller than a Falls or Jordan.

Harris isn't a flood control lake and is owned by the power company. I don't remember ever seeing it what you would call high and usually the water color is okay
