Hit the water at Farrington Point this morning for the sunrise. Had it to myself from about 6:45 to maybe 7:30 when a couple of other yak'ers arrived. Fished around the bridge for a couple of hours and only managed a couple of small stripers. I don't have a fish finder on my Yak, so not sure if the fish were there and not biting or if they have just moved on toward deeper water. I was really surprised there were no other boats there.

I've done my share of head scratchin' this year fishin' for (both) bass and for crappie. I don't really get it yet... but I'm quite set on figurin' it out pretty soon. I went to Harris Lake on Friday for a mixed bag of small bass, crappie, white perch and even a few blue gill. I'm guessin' I caught twenty some fish all together in about four hours with only about 7 or 8 keepers in the bunch. I've tried 'em shallow... I've tried 'em deeper... I've tried 'em on cover... I've tried 'em on structure. I'm tryin' to keep the faith that it will all come together sometime soon as the water temps continue to drop and the fall and winter pattern continues to set up.

Me and my son went today ended up with 14 good keepers and around 7 shorts found them today in 9-13 ft of water, caught a bunch of white perch mixed in we used 7 dozen minnows from 7:30 to 1:30 found them about the time we were running out of bait caught 12 of the keepers in a 50 yd stretch, but he had fun that’s all that matters. Water was still 66 degrees.

Sorry late reply, went yesterday just to bass fish, caught 3 dinks up Haw river side , went up new hope side at masons reef nothing, marked a few small bait balls. Was fishing with a guy that just moved here from OK. He's fished Jordan 1 time and needed some one to show him lake. Went up thru s- curve showed him how to go around horseshoe islands, he asked me how's crappie fishing here , I told him great. So going about 30 mph, at mouth of s-curve theirs a guy spider- rigging, stopped and talked to him, he was in a aluminum boat with yammy tiller on back. He said he'd already caught about 20+ and said from there all the way around to new hope ramp fish a stacked, we said thanks for info. Headed around to danger shoal at new hope. Luckily Ed had 4 spinning rods in box, we tied on jigs and started looking bait balls on danger shoal. BOOM there they were in 12-20 fow, now bait was hanging at 8-10 ft. Couldn't get a strike in 20 to 16 fow, moved in a little to 12-14 fow an BOOM there's the strikes, if we got to shallow 10 ft. nada to deep 17-20 nada. CRAPPIE were in a certain zone, some structure here and there didn't matter. We hammered them before rain. About 30+- in 1 1/2 hr. Almost all 10-12 ". Now I know some will criticize me for to much info. But the way I look at it , there's enough crappie in lake for everyone. And for the weekend warrior like me , it's nice to at least have some clue, where fish are. And u aren't scratching your head. IMHO, you spend $$ to go fishing, your at risk of all kinds of possibilities pulling boat to and from lake and on the water. I enjoy the beauty and peace of being on the water, but I also like to catch fish and when I don't, I leave scratching my head for a whole week, what could have I done differently. Then I go back the next weekend with a different fishing plan not knowing what the fish have done, back to square 1. If conditions were as last yr. I'd know , but that's not what happened this yr. so you have to find the pattern for this yr. When I joined this site I thought I'd get some inside info on what fish are actually doing, from guys that fish 2 days a week. I'm the type that will tell, what I've seen and where. Always thought that's being good sportsmanship.
Sorry if I ruffled and feathers. Sorry for rant.
Slow drizzle started at around 2:15 so we packed up for quick run back to Poe's ramp, Ed said 18' foot cobra was fast with 200 mariner '98 yr. came down thru. s-curve at 56 mph. Once in open water boat with Jack plate trimmed, 2 in boat livewell full topped out at 74.8 mph.
