I can't tell any difference in taste. If you are on the lake long, bring a cooler. The crappie don't last all day in a hot livewell.
Wanted to get some input on the quality of crappie meat when caught in July/August vs those caught when the water temp is much colder, say 65 or colder. Do you notice much difference?
Thanks,
TW

I prefer fish out of cold water.
Can’t say I have made a comparison. May be all mental with me! LOL
After water temps above 70, I carry a cooler with ice/water for my fish.

I almost always put mine straight on ice regardless of time of year. I find it much easier to find and catch crappie in winter and early spring than I do in the summer anyway.
