So, this past Saturday morning I loaded up our skiff and me and Bear the wonder Boykin headed out to Norman to do some hybrid and catfishing. The bite was slow and by 11:30 we still didn't have anything to show for our efforts. As I was packing up rods, I heard a boat coming and when I looked up I saw a Carolina Skiff planed out and heading straight for us. I quickly reached down and tried to grab the lanyard that my whistle was on, but missed it. My focus then shot to Bear who was napping b/w the CC and the back deck. I called for him and got his attention, but I knew I was not going to have time to get to him before the other boat hit us. As I glanced back the other boat was now right off the nose of my boat, so I dove head first as far as I could and before I hit the water, I heard the boats collide.
When I surfaced I saw my boat and the damage to it and just knew my dog was dead. I was beyond relieved to see that little brown dog bounce up on the front deck, soaking wet and not a scratch on him!!!!
I swam back to the boat and by this time the other boat had circled back around. The explanation from the other boater was that he just never saw us.
What save my dog was that the other boat ran head on into us, popped the front of his boat up and it landed on the CC, and then pushed forward and landed on top of my Yeti cooler! Between the CC and the Yeti, it held his boat up enough that it was able to run over the top of Bear and not crush him!!
It is nothing short of a miracle that nobody was hurt or killed. In closing, always stay alert when you're on the water. Things can change in an instant, and some of those things are out of your control. Yall stay safe.
