Yep .... White Bass
May seem like a no brainer to some of y'all. But traditionally we don't have white bass runs in the Cape Fear. This was caught at L&D #1 in Riegelwood. Caught all the usual morones; white perch and stripers. Threw this guy in the cooler thinking it was a big white perch, didn't notice the stripes till I went to clean them. Only one stripe extends to tail, manually raising front dorsal did not cause second dorsal to raise... so is this a white bass? Never heard of them making runs up the Cape Fear, but a friend with CFRW told me that hybrids and whites have been sporadically reported in the Cape Fear ever since hurricane Florence. Unfortunately I did not do the tooth patch test, didn't know about it until it was too late. What do you guys think?
That's what I thought. Born and raised in Riegelwood, fished all migratory runs my whole life. First Cape Fear white I've ever laid eyes on. Also caught tons of stripers, including a yellow tag, and a handful of crappie sitting right at the gate to the lock. Thanks for the reply.
SEA DANCER LIKED above post
There has been a test project going on in Jordan for a few years now. I talked to a biologist two years ago and she told me the white bass were doing good in Jordan. Makes since that they would make their way to the FC and that is a good thing. Thanks for the report.
