Thread: Rod?

I end up breaking a rod tip more often than I would like to admit. Just too clumsy I guess. So I avoid the high dollar rods. For me, you can’t beat the Shakespeare micro series from Walmart for about $16. I have a 4ft6in, a 6ft, and a 7ft. They are great for casting, tight lining, dock shooting, etc.

I use my b and m rods tightlining. Been looking at st Croix panfish series as well as cashion crappie series for a good 6’6’’ or 7’ for single rod jig fishing and casting. Any input on these two? Also any input on rod length for throwing light jigs. Does it make much difference going to 7’ rod? Thanks for help

I thought I would like my 7 better than the 6, but not true. I can use the 6 for casting light jigs and then shoot under docks without swapping out. I started with the 4 ft 6, but it doesn’t cast quite as far with the light jigs.

I have fished many years and talked to lots of fishermen. The best rod for is the one you have confidence in. If it works for then you will catch more fish with it and you will fish it more. Lures are the same way. If you hace confidence in a lure you will go to it more often and therefore catch more fish with it. That's just fishing.

I do alot of casting with my 10ft rods that I tight line with and really have no problem with it but like mentioned I have confidence in it. Also I do have a 9ft berkley trout dough rod that is excellent for casting light jigs. When I'm strictly just casting I will use it.

I have a few of the st croix panfish rods. They're pretty sweet for sure. Casts light stuff with ease, but I've wore out some big rock and gar, not targeting, with them too. So, they're pretty solid. I think mine are 6' and they're about the right length for casting. I don't know if they'd be much good for dock shooting. Of course, I troll beetle spins for white perch with them too.

St Croix makes excellent rods. I have bought some less expensive rods lately that I like. Browning air stream and Berkely lightning.
