    Default Trolling plate

I have a 14ft jon boat with a 25hp 2stroke Yamaha on it. A friend of mine gave me a trolling plate. I've been wanting to deck the front of the boat and place a trolling motor on it but I just haven't had the time to do so ( or the $) I was needing you guys to help me decide if the trolling plate is worth putting on. I would appreciate the input from anyone who has used one. Name: 20190809_190056.jpg

Personally, I would not. I don’t want the sound/fumes of the gas motor running all day. That, and it would most likely still be too fast for crappie.
If it was mine, I’d get a small stern mount troller. You can find them pretty cheap if you hunt around.

I have the same type of boat and motor as you and just starting pulling crank baits, to slow the boat down to a fishable speed I used a 5 gal bucket with a 3" hole in the bottom. As mentioned in the previous post the exaust smoke can be a problem at times. Good luck and let us know how you do.

I have had them on three of my last 5 boats. They are great for crankbaits. They slowed me down from about 2.5 to about 1.6 or 1.7 using the big motor. These were on from a 75 horsepower to a 115 hp. I am not sure what they will do with your smaller motor, but if you want to get down to pulling jigs speed you will probably also need a drift sock or couple of buckets. I loved them on my boats for crankbaits and when I would go to the coast drifting for flounder. Good speeds for both.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to go ahead and put it on and in the meantime I'll be looking for a deal on a trolling motor.

I used one on a 115 4 stroke for a few years pulling crankbaits...it worked great. If you use one on a 2 stroke tho...you will eventually foul your spark plugs unless you run the motor wide open for awhile when you get through trolling to blow the carbon, and oil residue, etc. out.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I have one of these on my suzuki df140. It is automatic that works off the water thrust from the prop. No cables in the way or anything to mess with. Works great for trolling cranks for crappie and stripers.Name: Screenshot_20191104-195505_Google.jpg
