Went out at 6:30 this morning to try and catch a mess of Spotted Bass. My wife ordered Bass for dinner. No Crappie, just Bass. Well after throwing double bass assassin, rattle trap and jerk bait for almost 2 hours it was time to catch what she told me not to catch. The water was 78 degrees and I decided to check some of my offshore rock piles to see if any crappie were moving out to them. Only 2 rock piles had fish on them. Not like it will be when it gets hot but I'll take it. The piles were in about 25 feet surrounded by deeper water. I threw jigs letting them pendulum down to near bottom and then a slow retrieve back to the boat. Fish all hit deep and nothing seemed to be shallow. I caught about 25 and kept 10 for dinner. My tape measure was in my other boat so I measured the largest fish with my redneck yard stick which I always have handy. It was a great day on the water with very little boat traffic.
