    Default Shearon Harris 12/23/18

My better half and I are thinking about hitting Harris this Sunday since the weather is going to be decent. I’ve only fished it once. Would any of you old salts have any suggestions or pointers on where to start looking for the crappie ? Has anyone fished it this week? They are calling for rain and then a couple of nice days..... not sure where to start looking after all the fresh water we have had.... Thanks for any advice.....

This time of year there is usually an armada after crappie on Harris. Just join the mass of boats that will probably be out there.

Thanks fellas. Went the first time and now I’m hooked. I love the way the place looks and the amount of bait there. Joseph I look forward to seeing your report. Thank you sir. New to crappie fishing somewhat but I want to put my girl on some quality fish....

I've fished Harris every Thursday except last Thursday (fished Jordan) since November 20. I've seen a max of 5-8 boats total on the lake, which is very surprising considering that Jordan and Falls have been closed up till just recently.

You mentioned being new to crappie fishing so this time of year you will typically find the boats fishing in deeper water on or near the bottom. In Jordan or Harris that will be in tehe 20s-30s feet of water.

Well..... new to targeting crappie as souls species. Bass fished tourney trail and Commercial grouper fished as well as King Mackeral tournies. Have caught many crappie but never focused efforts for them. Especially on Harris. I love the lake so far though. I plan on making many trips this year

If you grouper fish then you know the importance of determining what part of ledges the fish are on and line maintenance to keep baits at right depth. King fishing gives you experience in looking for right pod of bait in right place to make it come together. Then there is the green carp experience....
Winter fishing is a bit different than what some folks think of crappie fishing.

Yeah..... Im seeing that. However, crappie fishing Harris to me is more like grouper fishing. Working ledges and contours seem to work great. Enough bait there to help you figure if the area will be productive or not before you have to spend much time there. First trip was slow but productive with target species caught (bass and crappie). Im looking forward to learning more about the species and working them to become more successful on every trip. Thanks for the pointers....
