Nice, I have never been to Harris.
Took my Lady and the Sea Dancer to Harris Tuesday morning. The weather was too nice for Nov. but we made the best of it. Fishing was slow most of morning but we were marking lots of fish so just stayed with them. At about 11am they turned on and it was good for about 2 hours. Most crappie were between 10 and 14 inches and the perch were very nice. Perch were in about 15 ft deep and crappie under them at 20 to 25ft deep. all in 30 fow. We had a blast and a really good day. I was planning to post pictures but can't get them from I Phone to pc.

Looks like you had a good day on the water. Interesting that they have moved deep with such a warm autumn.
Nice report Dwight. I'll bet I know exactly where you were at judging from the pictures.
It won't be long before I will be getting in touch with you about a trip to Harris. I can't wait!!

Well, with all due respect: I don't think thermocline or the lack thereof is too relevant now Dwight; because IMO thermocline is a summertime water layering phenomenon which starts and finishes with "water turnover" happening in the spring and late summer months due to thermodynamics (rise and fall (exchange) of cold and warmer waters)... creating the turnover effect. I have learned that thermocline happens (not only due to heat of summer) but when all of the decomposing matter that has settled to the bottom (during this exchange) decays and robs nutrients and oxygen from the bottom layers of the water column... causing "thermocline" or what some often refer too is the "Dead Sea Effect." Now, since the thermocline is dissolved into the other layers of water... I believe that deep water is exactly where I would expect to find crappies at this time of the year through most of January when they begin their cyclical migration into the creek arms and somewhat shallower waters.

This is the beginning of my favorite time of the year to fish. I am a hunter (hunting for the fish}and the shad move so much this time of year that it is hard to tell where the crappie will be. I always thought just under the bait fish was a good place to look for them. I also think the bio charts are a good tool. I have seen them wrong but Wednesday my chart was spot on with the peek time. I love to crappie fish as much as I like to talk about it.
