Well, with all due respect: I don't think thermocline or the lack thereof is too relevant now Dwight; because IMO thermocline is a summertime water layering phenomenon which starts and finishes with "water turnover" happening in the spring and late summer months due to thermodynamics (rise and fall (exchange) of cold and warmer waters)... creating the turnover effect. I have learned that thermocline happens (not only due to heat of summer) but when all of the decomposing matter that has settled to the bottom (during this exchange) decays and robs nutrients and oxygen from the bottom layers of the water column... causing "thermocline" or what some often refer too is the "Dead Sea Effect." Now, since the thermocline is dissolved into the other layers of water... I believe that deep water is exactly where I would expect to find crappies at this time of the year through most of January when they begin their cyclical migration into the creek arms and somewhat shallower waters.
