Looking forward to another tournament season. The press release from the Wildlife Resources Commission is below. Looks like it will re-open in the Spring.

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. (Dec. 11, 2017) — On Tuesday, Jan. 2, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will close the Holleman’s Landing boating access area for renovations. The Wake County boating access area, located on Bartley-Holleman’s Road in Holly Springs, grants boaters access to Shearon Harris Lake.

After the renovations are complete, the site will have two new double lane ramps with floating docks and a handicap-accessible fishing pier. The site will also have 95 parking spaces for vehicles with trailers and 22 vehicle-only spaces, including six ADA-compliant spaces. The Commission plans to reopen the access area in the spring.

The nearest alternative boating access area is Cross Point Landing, located at 233 Cross Point Road in New Hill. To locate other boat ramps in the area or for more information on boating in North Carolina, visit the Commission’s online locater map. First off I would like to say hey to everyone, I'm not new but rarely post on here but love to read all of the comments. I live 5 minutes from Jordan and 25 from Harris. heres my question. I really would like to fish in some of these tournaments but I have a hard time keeping the fish ALIVE in the livewell by the time I get done fishing. I went the week of Christmas with great luck but by the time the trip was over, over half of the fish had died or belly up. Again I went back the week after with same results on Jordan. I have a Carolina Skiff 218 DLV with a nice livewell. Any help is much appreciated. Happy Fishing Everyone.

Sounds like you need to "fizz" or vent those fish coming from down deep. Just like fishing at the Gulf Stream, you need a tool to release the air from the swim bladder. Here's a video that may help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExstJbu5kWY

Thank you for the video, i've also wondered this. Is there a depth that you know you need to fizz the fish? say anything below 20' or do you watch them in the livewell and fizz if they're floating?

The fish we caught a couple of weeks ago were right on the bottom in 34' water. I didn't have a fish venting tool, so the local bald eagle was enjoying a good meal from fish floating on the top of the water.

straighten a hook out and bend the barb flat, works in a pinch, but a hollow syringe needle or filed sharp ball inflator needle works better, just go at a slight angle behind the scale to cover the hole u make

Could also try dropping them back down on a heavy wieght with a barbless hook with a heavy weight and let the shake off or with a little hook barely hooked in and rip it out.
