how did you do
Has anyone been out to Randleman since it opened on Wed? I am planning on bundling up Sat morning and giving it a go.
how did you do
Take this report with a grain of salt as I am at best a novice crappie fisherman and have somewhat archaic electronics.
Went out on Sunday from the electric only side. Water temps I encountered were between 54-57. Went to my normal shallow spots and did not mark any fish. One here, one there so my guess is that they were bass. Nothing with numbers enough to make me think they were crappie. Tried fishing a few places to make sure my electronics were correct and did not have a bite. Tried minnow and bobber, jigs, jigs tipped with minnows. Did a lot of searching in shallows and brush and nothing. Nothing marked in the "deeper" areas (6-10 ft) around the shallows. So at that point, I had two options that I could figure. Switch to bass fishing like everyone else or find some deeper water. I chose the deeper water. So I made the electric run out to deeper water, about a 1/8th mile past the turn where you could finally see the 62 bridge. Started marking fish once I got to 23 ft of water. The deeper, the more fishable marks. After searching the shallows and the intermediate areas around the deep areas with no marks, I finally decided to try the deep where I saw bait fish and fishable marks. I anchored in 26-30 ft of water. Caught 8 crappie, 4 were over 10". The others smaller. 4 catfish also with one going about 5 lbs. All fish were caught about 20 ft down in the column. Plenty of bait fish out in that area also. All caught on crappie rig type presentations with minnow.
Hope this helps.
