NICE!!! Congrats
So i lied. I told some people that i was not able to go offshore until February due to schedule. on the 10th I took a peek at the weather with my 3 upcoming days off i had. looked beautiful. Made one phone call, buddy made another phone call and within 10 minutes had a crew of 3 lined up.
On to the fishing....It was rougher than hell the last 15miles but we steamed out there. no turning around. Lines in and within 5 min of setting the spread, fish on! Nice 20 min fight and we had a 50lb class wahoo in the boat.
spread out and within 15min, fish on!!
25min flight and a mid 60s in the boat. Things are looking good. 20min later, explosion in the prop wash and he burns out of town. tail whipped the mainline and lost him.
30min goes by and the short rigger pops and no fish.....i free spool it, feel a little tension then nothing.....more freespool and made contact fish on. simultaneously the prop wash has similar action.....free spool and nothing. I toy with it for a good 45 seconds before i put the wood to him and fish on. have no idea what it is until the first one starts dancing. double sailfish. Made short order of both, took pics and released.
one more time we had a reel get smoked....never seen line melt off a reel so fast. unfortunatly it didnt stay buttoned up.
end tally was 2 wahoo over 50lbs and a pair of sails. not bad for a January day off the Carolina coast. May try to go back again first week of February if the weather allows!
Man nothing out there eats better than wahoo!
