Default A mess to give away from Rhodhiss

Went over to lake Rhodhiss to see if the afternoon bite would be the same as it was on lake Hickory yesterday afternoon. Got on the water at around same time 3pm, fished docks both days with water temps 64 deg. Both trips I fished many spots deep and shallow before hitting that right dock both days that was holding fish in around 15 fow. the only difference Sat's dock was full sun, and Sundays dock was full shade. only caught 7,all on jig, but kept 6 nice ones. I text a buddy and asked if he would like to have a mess, cause he love some crappie, and he is on the way home. Stopped by and even cleaned em for him, cause friends do not let friends play with knives when he had probly had maybe 1 to many, but hay that for me is what it is all about. Go fishing, relax, learn what you can, have fun, and help others out when ya can
Difference between day and night: Day= one rod, one jig/Night= Many rods & a bucket full of minners

I guess we should have tried docks. We long lined trolled Rhodhiss for almost 7 hours with only one crappie to show for it.

I had shearon Harris dialed in when we lived down there but I can't figure these upper Catawba chain lakes out at all.

Dock shooting and night stalking is the only two ways I fish for crappie, just have not tried all the other ways yet. They can be hard to find sometimes, I fish waters from 10- 30 ft deep both ways day and night. I would recommend get a map of Hky and Rhodhiss and see where the drop offs, creeks, and other structures are such as old road beds. These are the places I set up to night fish.

Thanks spotrunnin. I have a good map of the lake. I work drop offs etc.

I have done some dock shooting so I'm familiar with the technique but I was on someone else's boat so he chose the docks to fish. Other than 10-30 fow how do you choose which docks to spend time on?

I look for older docks, most of the time, but will pick a cove or area and fish most every dock in that area. When I catch fish there I will mentally make note of it, and fish similar type of docks. The thing about dock fishing is you just never know till ya fish it. I will shoot an area 5-7 times if the fish is there they will hit it on the first or second time most of the time. If it is a dock I have caught on before I will spend a little more time before I give up and go to the next one. Shoot pontoon boats, they love them too!!!
