Default Kalin’s triple threat color recommendations request.

As I have detailed in previous threads my wife and I are new to long line trolling and in particular to using only plastic bait. After our recent experience we want to acquire some Kalin’s 2” triple threat bait for our continued experiments and experience.

My current question is what colors to start with. I want to start with smaller quantity bags, play around with colors until we start to dial in the ones that work the best for us, then go with the bulk packs in those colors.

I currently have Kalin’s 2” triple threats in Acid Rain, Wally World, Orange Crush, Pumpkin/Chart, White/Silver-gltr ch tail, Chart/shad and Blk/neon/ch/glow/tail. I know this is a small selection, but I am also just getting started. What are your favorites must have colors from the Kalin’s line.

    Thanks and happy fishing
    Dennis

I have fished for crappie for 40 years with plastic grubs and my opinion is that any color works as long as it is Chartreuse. I long line troll mostly and ALWAYS have at least one black/chart and one blue in my spread. I pull various other colors on the other lines. I use all brands. The last two trips Kalin's Triple Threat in Blue/Chart has done very good. Fish sense prey through their lateral line, so I always give more thought to size and shape of the lure. Different shapes give off different vibrations as they are pulled through the water. I pull curly tails, whale tails, tube jigs, straight tails, hair, and marabou jigs.

I agree with Rick - chartreuse and chartreuse. It is hard to beat day in and day out. Take a look at any article by Capps and Coleman two of the best and they fish chartreuse almost exclusively. I also do well with plain white or white mixed. Chartreuse is usually better when I crappie fish, but white probably edges it out when I run 5 inch curlytails for stripers.

Acid rain, blue/black with chartreuse tail and john deere all work well. I've also found some hot pink and bright red will work at times as well.

I honestly don't think the fish care that much about the color, they are more interested in the action. If you search crappie.com for "best color" type threads you'll quickly find every color combination you can dream up is "the best color". I would ask people who fish your lakes what they have success with, and go with that.

And remember, fish eat baitfish, so that color usuasually is a good bet

monk will be happy to sell you a color selector to help you determine which color the fish can see best that day and at the depth they are, and believe it or not the things work. i carry one in my boat and use it from time to time. it measures light penetrationan and factors in water clarity to determine which color a fish can see the best in the situation, i can tell multiple stories about how the fish were hitting one color real well, and like a switch the bite died, dropped the selector in and it would say some odd color like red, put it that on and bam, back to good times.

I always start off with different colors until I find out what they're hitting the best .It seems to me that Different places like Different colors. So depending on where I'm going after learning the colors depends on the colors that I use .My particular favorite Is John Deere green in Kalins And I love some electric chicken in Bobby garlands. Over time and places you will create a little HOT box!! Good Luck and good fishing!!!

I have actually seen this before. How many people actually have one of these and would you recommend it to a friend?
