    Default Getting back into it!

Well it has been several years since I owned a boat and have done any crappie fishing. I bought one this weekend and hope to begin fishing in a couple of weeks. We have a small rv on lake hickory, so most of my fishing will be there. I use to fish Tillery and Blewitt Falls quite a bit 5 or 6 years ago. First deep v boat I have owned. Bought it because I have gotten hooked on trolling for stripers as well on Hickory. Getting ready to put rod holders on it now. Thinking about tite-lok because I could adjust 0 degrees for spider rigging and then up to 40 or 50 degrees for trolling for stripers. Any ideas or suggests are appreciated.

I second the good looking boat, you could use the driftmasters also, if you are going between 0 and say 45 degrees.

I looked at driftmasters and have used them in the past, but I am welding up my own t-bars and using flat bar for the cross member. If I use drift masters I will have to change rodholders. I have looked at the dual holders that have a 30 degree and a 5 degree angle. Anyone use those and have any info on how they work.

All I have on my boat are driftmaster duo's and love them. I can tightline for crappie or stripers (live bait) or prop the rod up for anchored up catfishing or pulling planer boards for stripers. Very versatile.

I agree with mikefish. I have 16 of the duo's on my boat. I troll and tightline for stripers, cats and crappie and like having the two positions to choose from. I like the tite-lok holders for crappie but I know personally I want a rod holder that I know is not going to adjust when a big striper or cat hits the rod, but when I'm catfishing I keep the drag set down pretty tight so the circle hook gets a good set. Just my 2 cents on some rod holders. Good looking boat to, should be a fish catching machine. Maybe I'll see y'all on the water chasing down them stripers. Tightlines!

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to like the boat. A older gentleman had bought it in 2008 new to retire and fish and things did not work out for him. It only has about 45 hours on it total. It is like new. Where do you guys striper fish. I need to learn how to fish with shad and planer boards. Only trolling with umbrella rigs and crankbaits now with them deeper, but will try live bait as it gets cooler.

I fish Hickory mainly for them. Go out to Tenn. and down to SC and chase a few too. The most difficult part of fishing with shad is being able to keep them alive. Need a good bait tank. I do fish with umbrellas some and seem to have some success with them. But don't count out live bait in the summer. Works just as good then to in my opinion. Are you having any luck catching them right now?

Didn't catch any last weekend. Weekend before last, we caught 9 with 5 over 10 lbs. Very good weekend. They seem to bite for me for about an hour after sunrise and then the bite is over for the most part. Catch one every now and then, but not many after 7 or so. I just built me a bait tank from a 55 gallon drum.

Took your advice. I have 14 of the dual holders coming. Working this weekend, but cant wait until next weekend and trying them out. Will post a pic when I get them mounted.
