Thanks Terry for all the work you do. We are working hard to get a good number of crappie boat captains out for the day. There are a lot of good-hearted folks in this area and we want to make this a great day on the lake for our veterans.
Her's another email from Terry, mark your calendars and get out there and help these Vets have a day on the water
Hey Operation North Staters
Hope you are all doing well. A lot of updates to report - Some help needed - And, if you are out and about in the Salisbury area tomorrow, drop by Tilley Harley – Davidson; they are hosting Rockin’ With The Troops for Military Service Members and their families.
1. Our “used” rods & reels collection program is up to 43. Our goal is 75 rods & reels. We will hand them out to the wounded warriors and disabled veterans during the Jordan Lake Top Shelf Fishin’ Festival; and, we are providing some of them to the VA Hospital in Salisbury to be used by their patients to fish in their pond. It’s a great pond – very clean, private and the NCWRC is getting ready to stock it big-time!
2. We need host boaters for the Saturday, October 3 Jordan Lake Top Shelf Fishin’ Festival. We only have 14 boaters confirmed. As for wounded warriors and disabled veterans (our guests), we already have a waiting listing. FIRST TIME EVER! I talk to them often – they are really bored this summer not having any TSFFs to attend. But they are most anxious to attend the October Festivals: Jordan Lake Top Shelf Fishin’ Festival and the Peer Fishin’ Festival on Oceancrest Pier at Oak Island on Friday, October 9.
3. We will be adding one new Top Shelf Fishin’ Festival in March of 2016. It will be down east at Edenton / the Albemarle Sound. The community, American Legion and boaters are excited!
4. Come join us for the Peer Fishin’ Festival in October. Serve as a pier mate – this is so touching. You can walk the pier and laugh, cut up and pay tribute to the 200 – 250 wounded warriors and disabled veterans that will be on the pier. Pair up with them and fish too – get to know them. It’s just bottom-fishing using your lake equipment followed by a good bath of WD-40. We are expecting 400-450 to be on the pier! I have secured a great $66 rate for the new Holiday Inn Express (Bolivia) – regular $114. And, if you want to turn your visit into a long weekend, they are letting us have that rate through the weekend. These rooms will go fast. I think we have a block of 50 rooms. The following link overviews last year’s Festival. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1246264&type=3 The Festival was the lead story in the Wilmington paper the next morning and the following day the article ran in Stars & Stripes worldwide.
5. Randolph Telephone produced a 22-minute video of the Randleman Lake Top Shelf Fishin’ Festival back on May 19. AWESOME video – such a moving veterans’ moment at the 15:03 minute mark of the video. You guys and gals are making such a difference in so many lives. Let’s keep it going. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL34vbfsGyA
6. Two new programs: Operation Lady Jane is our first national program. More to come but we have the Facebook page up: Operation Lady Jane and the website will be completed by August 15. OLJ is all about providing support service to assist female wounded warriors in “feeling like a lady again”. These are not our words but theirs and there are 10,000 females wounded warriors in the country and 30-40% of them could use a service or two. Note: A lot of you have met Noell Michalski; she volunteered for the Lake Norman TSFF and the Badin Lake TSFF - She is the Director for the Operation Lady Jane Program – she is going to need our help – Noell seems excited and truly believes in this great cause!
7. Next new program: We are in the planning stages of “Veterans Appreciation Day at the North Carolina Zoo”. It’s never been hosted before. Looking at a late-March 2016 date. This will be fun!
As you can see, we have a full plate. We can always use your assistance with these fun and unique projects for our wounded warriors and disabled veterans. Our current “greatest” needs is to confirm our 50 host boaters for the Jordan Lake Top Shelf Fishin’ Festival and raise some funds for this Festival (dollars and/or door prizes).
A day never goes by that ONS doesn’t receive a message thanking us for our services and especially being there for our wounded warriors and disabled veterans. When I hear these comments, all I can think about is you (host boaters, supporters, the media and volunteers) that make our support services possible.
Thanks!
Terry

i'd be happy to take a few vets out but i already have and engagement that sat, thats the sat of the church tourney, may be why you have trouble getting more crappie boats.
