Default Volunteer boaters can take wounded vets fishing

Saw this article in the Raleigh newspaper this week. This is the same organization that Shane is involved with and will be on Jordan in October. If I remember correctly, it is the first Saturday in October. Save that date and plan on taking some Wounded Warriors fishing on Jordan. The crappie bite should be good by then, so let's plan on giving our veterans a great day on the water.

A few more boat owners willing to join a June 5 fishing outing can make some wounded warriors and disabled veterans very happy.

Terry Snyder, founder of Operation North State, could use a dozen or so additional boaters to help take 50 military personnel and veterans onto the water for the inaugural New Bern Top Shelf Fishin’ Festival.

Snyder’s volunteer organization will hold the rain-or-shine event at Lawson Creek Park at 1309 Country Club Rd. in New Bern, just off the Trent and Neuse rivers. The outing gives Operation North State six free fishing events this year, which is the 501(c)3 organization’s fifth in operation.

The group began with its N.C. Cares Christmas Gift Box Initiative, packaging letters from state residents and snacks made in the state to send to 1,500 military personnel. Two years ago, volunteers took veterans fishing, and a new mission launched, Snyder said Tuesday night.

“We’ve expanded to six events this year,” he said. “We’ve already done three – at Lake Norman, at Badin Lake and at Randleman Lake, which was in conjunction with Richard Petty and his (Petty Family) Foundation.”

After New Bern, the final two events will be a Jordan Lake outing in October and a pier fishing outing at Oak Island.

The outings are supported by donations from organizations and individuals across the state, and six guides have given up paid days on the water to host wounded and disabled anglers, Snyder said.

Most expenses are covered, but food and door prizes are welcome, Snyder said. About 17 spots remain for anglers. The public is invited to the 3 p.m. weigh-in. To fish or volunteer, email [email protected] or call 336-764-5967.

Team beast will participate in this very honorable event; we all owe so much to our veterans.

JordanLimit, I sent an Email to the address stating if they still need a volunteer I'd be willing to bring my boat to New Bern, haven't heard anything back. Do they no longer need boaters?

Shane I will not be available for this weekend but sign me up for the Jordan Lake event. I've got a 16' bass tracker so I can take 1 or possibly 2 depending. Please PM if you need further info from me.
