    Default 3 Pounder at Badin

My son finished his Jr year at App State and couldn't wait to get on the water and catch some Bass. Went to Badin Friday afternoon and fought the wind. Did manage to catch a dozen or so Largemouth, but the real surprise was a huge slab caught on a crankbait on one of the windblown banks. The fish had the shad pinned up against the bank and this is what slammed my crankbait. Click image for larger version.

That's nice. I've started using some really small crankbaits and I'm having some good luck but not 3 pounds good luck.

Hockey - not sure where your homelake is, but Badin would be a good place to go. Did the same thing a couple weeks ago with son wanting to bass fish. I managed to catch a crappie on a shad rap during that trip but wasn't this big. I'd heard of folks catching them on crankbaits but not every trip. I may try this some more. We tried that same spot again but nothing else. I would have loved to tie on a smaller jig and stay there awhile, but that boy want's to catch bass. I understood, I was once there too.

Harris and Jordan (Raleigh area) are the two I hit all time but I plan to try a few more lakes this year. Badin will be one of my targets.

Nice. Been hearing that Badin and Tillery are quality over quantity lakes.

Nice Fish! Gold Hill Hookers were there on Saturday the 9th. With like 23 +/- boats, 46 +/- fishermen, and 276 rods we could only come up with a 1.72 as big fish. Good to see a big fish in this area. I have a friend that fishes BASSMasters and they have been catching huge crappie on just about every lake they go to. Last month they were on the Alabama River and caught numerous crappie over 2.5. Would have loved to had caught this fish on Saturday but gonna be hard for me to put away 12 rods and cast a crank bait in a crappie tournament.
