    Default Kayak crappie trip RDU

Me and a buddy are planning a trip to the Raleigh Durham area to target crappies with our kayaks, of the area lakes Jordan, falls, Sharon Harris etc. which lake, ramp, and time of the year would you recommend. We are from the coast so mostly target saltwater fish and occasional largemouth so any tips and help would be greatly appreciated

Not looking for secret spots. Just areas that are kayak safe/friendly

The most crappie I have ever caught in my kayak was in the eno in the fall. You can usually watch for reports on here for when it is time to go. The flows are typically slow enough you can paddle up and down stream easily or if interested there are a few spots for putting in and taking out further downstream.

Look at the post by fishinRod on Jordan. His gas motor gave out and could only use his trolling motor. You should be able to kayak fish in the same area that he did. Send him a PM and find out the details.

The Beaver Dam Lake area of Falls Lake is a good kayak fishing location. There are plenty of coves to catch the outgoing spawning crappie. The Beaver Damn side is all non motorized boats so you don't have to deal with the wake from bass boats.

You can put kayaks in at Harris Lake Park, at either boat ramp, or at the New Hill Hollemon Rd bridge. My vote would be the bridge as it will put you in a good spot to find fish either shallow (under bridge back towards creek) or deeper water (other side of bridge towards main lake). This time of year the upper creek portion is pretty hot bass wise I haven't tried for crappie back there however.
