    Default Roanoke River Stripers

I went to Weldon yesterday for the 1st time ever on my own boat. We caught around 25-30. All on live shad. Only 2 keepers. Most were 17.5 inches. I watched a guy casting a fluke on a 1/2 jig head catch fish almost every cast. He stayed in the same spot for almost 2 hrs. No telling how many he caught.

We put in around 7am and left around 1:30. pulled in and out without waiting.

Keep those reports coming. I may need to make a mid week run to Weldon soon but it will probably be during the catch and release time.

We went to Jamesville on Saturday and fished the Roanoke. The fishing was good. Boy did we get soaked. We caught 7 striped bass with 3 keepers. We also caught 5 catfish and kept one. All were caught on cut herring.

Flows will be going up due to the rain to our NW. going up to 15,000 cubic ft per second on Tues night and then 20,000 on Wed night through at least Sunday.

So can you explain to us how this will effect the fishing? I assume the water level will be higher and moving faster?? Sorry if this is a dumb question. This is my 1st year fishing in Weldon. I have plans on going back Monday 27th

From my experience, it will help the fishing. I've done the best with high water levels there.

High water is great this time of year, gets them big fat chicks right up river, lol
and opens doors for up river fishing, just add enough weight to bounce the bottom, usually 1oz does the job. for fly guys full sinking 500gr lines are the ticket,
    good workout, lol

    good fishing and stay safe,

ps an lets hear some reports,

Be careful still if going upriver. More current deeper water moves fish around. Harder to anchor. Will definitely bring fish up from downriver. Key thing is be safe Because fast moving water doesn't play does it albiechaser
